City Government

Mayor Hotline August 7 to 13

HOTLINE

8/9/10
Kevin Saxton
Powderhorn Street
ISSUE: Thinks that recent events in Bell, California, need to occur here and across country. Citizens need to keep close tabs on city government and how it is being run.
Mayor & CC

8/9/10
Steven Hulme
Camas St.
Boise, ID 83705
ISSUE: Upset that city no longer transcribes Mayor’s Hotline calls but instead summarizes them, which makes them subject to somebody’s interpretation. Also concerned that the Boise Guardian is no longer considered news media by the Boise Police Department; he considers the Guardian to be an impartial reporter of the news.

Wanted to tell Mayor that ACHD is appreciated. While chipping in her area she asked them some questions and they were very kind, courteous, friendly, and went out of their way to answer her questions.
ACTION: Emailed to ACHD

8/10/10
George Hobson
Sandpiper St.
Boise, ID 83709
ISSUE: Incensed and furious that if the hearing on the budget is approved there will be an increase in his city taxes. There is no service by the city that is worth raising taxes. All city services should be reduced to help the burdened taxpayer. City and county services are duplicated anyway, like police.

Richard Rogers
E. Saratoga Dr.
Boise, ID 83706
ISSUE: Thinks the Mayor and Council should not raise property taxes during a recession. He questions whether all the money spent on the city hall remodel is to bring the building in compliance with earthquake and electrical code or also to improve the décor of the building. He
thinks city leaders should use the Airport money to purchase land farther away from the city and eventually move the Airport.

David Waldren
S. 17th St.
Boise, ID 83702
ISSUE: Is there anything that can be done about a dilapidated RV that during the spring and summer months constantly parks near the skate park under the overpass off of 16th St.? He was told that they have learned to play the system – park there for 72 hours, move it, then move it right back.

  1. Hey – this Steven Hulme guy has UNCOMMON common sense!
    (-;

Somebody called and left a message; essentially it was just an acknowledgment that they’d received my call.

Interestingly, I got 2 responses in the last 24 hours, for the email I sent in to BPD about Dave being “de-listed.” One from Spokesperson Hightower and one from Chief Masterson.

Their sincerety is a bit suspect, since the two messages were worded identically, except for a sentence or two. (They declared that BPD press releases are available not only to preferred media and “ene-media” like the Guardian, but to us ordinary Joe Lunchbox types, too, on the website. So there, Dave! They’ve got NOTHING to hide!)

I know Steve Hulme’s secret identity, but don’t worry Bikeboy, I won’t tell anyone.

Press releases? Press releases? We don’t need no stinking press releases, we need the truth!

EDITOR NOTE–The only value to being on “the list” is to be notified of press conferences, emergencies like fires and disasters, access to “operational” events as they unfold.

  3. I second the comments about the RV. I have ridden past it everyday for the past 6 months. The Skate park across the street is starting to get some overnighters in another van or two. I think the camping was better and less visable for the homeless problem.

Too bad the county is shutting down the RV park. It could be utilized for the homeless to camp out.

  4. all the politicians talk about more transparency in govt. but few walk the talk. and when they do they want you to pay dearly for the info that is public record.

these people work for us, not the other way around. secrecy in govt. makes it corrupt.
