Name Your Favorite Stories For 2012

We trust everyone has opened their Christmas gifts, eaten a hearty meal and is now ready to reminisce about the past year’s news.

Without a doubt the Ada-Dynamis energy to trash scandal has dominated the GUARDIAN posts, but there have been plenty of other misdeeds uncovered in government.

You can use the search engine at the top of the page or click on the ARCHIVE button to review each month’s posts to refresh your memory. We would like to hear from readers on their favorite posts and what they would like to see in the coming year.

Here are some topics that came to mind:
–LEGISLATIVE ETHICS, including the McGee convictions and Hart taxes
–F-35 NOISE, as it turned out a lot of dough was spent for nothing
–LAND BOARD, brew pub and cottage leases called into question
–OCCUPY BOISE, a tiny taste of 1970’s protest, good job by coppers
–GARDEN CITY BIKE BAN, bikers got whipped by politicos
–COPPERS MISSING GUNS, accounting error or pilfered used guns
–FIRE STATION LEASE, voters approved $99 lease, GUARDIAN payment refused
–ZONDA BUS, Chinese electric bus never makes it to Idaho
–POLYGAMY VODKA, fun shots over Mormons and booze
–BOISE BUDGET CRUNCH, no cash in July, but October brings pay hikes
–AIRPORT, use is at 10 year low and expansions continue

The general topic of Energy to me is the story of the year. Public has been made aware of the huge subsidies involved thru the 1601 progtam, PTC subsidy which we will pay for many years and cheap Natural gas. Without the promise of these subsidys, Dynamis would not have existed, Idaho Power would have lower rates and the general public would be better served. Idaho Public Utilty Commission has in general recognized what they can do on the State level and issued appropriate rulings. The Dept. of Commerce will have to come up with more innovative ideas to save HOKU from the scrap heap.

  2. My favorite story would be the congressional elections. $200BN spent and nothing changed. Every Repub was sure Mr. Obama would be voted out of office and they would also take over the US Senate. Once again, it was an election determined by INDEPENDENTS and those not convinced by FOX News, Rash and Hannity and the SUPER PACS.

I think the meltdown at Ice world is note worthy. I have been told by “persons in the know” that things are different now and the new parks and rec manager will keep things honest. My prediction for the new year is that you will see part 2 of this saga. Don’t believe me Mr. Editor and readers? Look who they are bring in as the new asst hockey director…the more things change, the more they stay the same.

  5. This post has nothing to do with the topic other than to offer a HUGE thank you to the Guardian and all who share their thoughts. It is a testament of our great nation that we can carry on such conversations. May you all have a happy and prosperous 2013! Thanks again Mr. Guardian!
