Later in the day, Tibbs, Case, Sheriff Gary Raney, and prosecutor Greg Bower were all sworn in at a public ceremony. Case took the oath of office from former Commish Vern Bisterfeldt who left office in 2012 for health reasons.

First item of news from the new board was the appointment of former KTVB sports caster Larry Maneely as chief of staff–at $85,000 a year– for the commishes. Other clerks were also placed under the executive umbrella through transfers from the department of administration which is also run by Rich Wright, another ex-TV newsy.

“We look forward to Larry helping us make Ada County an even more transparent place to do the public’s business,” said Commission Chairman Dave Case. “We believe the addition of Larry to our staff will help enable us to be more responsive to the citizens of Ada County.”

While many of those who packed the meeting room were well wishers and supporters of the newly elected officials, there was an upbeat mood among the crowd and folks talked about the “relief” that a new crew was in office and expressed hope that some of the partisan bickering would be a thing of the past.

  1. It will be interesting to see how the new crew deals with the DYNAMIS deal and the fate of the $2MM of taxpayer dollars.

Mr. Case has had an uncomfortable initation to the Commissioners seat. He has handled it well and is being rewarded by being christened pack leader. Let’s not forget the last elections and the issues have been influenced with a heavy dose of citizen involvement. Continued involvement will be necessary as thorny decisions await and I am sure a couple of lawyers are licking their chops if commissioners make a misstep.
Best of luck to Mr. Case, Mr. Tibbs and a change in attitude to Mr. Yazaguire

  3. And every one of them a crook. This States political crowd is a good ol’ boys club still locked in the 1950’s.

Look at where their campaign money comes from and you’ll know soon enough who these prostitutes really work for.

I’ll keep the tar warm, you bring the feathers when y’all wake up.

  4. Larry Maneely? Mr. “I’d like to thank all the little people who made my move up in the market possible” Maneely? He must be nearing retirement and looking for some PERSI action. Isn’t there another ex news guy high up in the County govt? Rich Wright? or did Maneely replace him. I don’t get what qualifies ex journalists (term used loosely) for jobs like this. Whew!! I feel better now.

  5. So.. I just read the paper. Maneely is a new position at 85K With time working for the lottery on his resume (PERSI). So.. the first act of the new commission is to create a new position at 85K? So we have 3 full timers, and a chief of staff, and Wright–all to run one County?

  6. How is it “they” hired such a ‘media frontperson’ without a job announcement and selection process, but they did it on Day One.

Doesn’t look like transparency to me.

More like, “We know what we want to do and how to get around the red tape to get to it done.”

  7. Pork, pork and more pork
A chief of staff TV sports guy – more pork.

I’d like to know how they picked Maneely. It was obviously done before the swearing
in and without any public notice.

At least two of the commissioners got together and made the pick behind closed doors. So much for transparency.

  9. One of the other local news outlets characterized the new Commission as “progressive.” Which begs the question… if we are “progressive,” what are we progressing towards?

Like other commenters, the hiring of a new PR flak on Day One does not fill me with confidence that fiscal responsibility is a priority. (Or transparency, for that matter… in most cases, the PR staff at various gummint agencies acts like one more level of bureaucracy to separate the high-and-mighty from us commoners.)

Time will tell, I guess. (Maybe Maneely can use some of those awesome sportscasting skills to at least make the meeting minutes seem exciting…)

  10. Stupid Fools leading the Foolishly Stupid. Grossly incompetent, inept and corrupt. The good ol’ boy network in Idaho.

I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don’t vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote you have absolutely no right to complain. Now, some people will twist that around. They say, “If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain,” but where’s the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians and they are now in that office and screw everything up (and they will), you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You now have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote – who did not even leave the house on Election Day – am no way responsible for what these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created. Especially with the Dynamis deal. I mean really no one committed a crime.

  11. I’m wondering where you came up with that logic?

  12. DO – directly stealing George Carlin’s lines? http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/funnyquotes/a/george-carlin.htm

It is interesting that given the changes that have already taken place, and the now large public interest that people still think it will stay the same. If you are that pessimistic why waste your words whining about it?

  13. This is not going to be an improvement and will result in higher taxes/rates. People get elected with a personal agenda. The agenda of two of these three is to protect and enhance the pubic employee’s wages and bennies. Wait a couple years to say I’m wrong. And further, I do not see a conservative in the lot. Republican can mean anything these days.
