Good Turnout, No Changes, The Beat Goes On

We saw no surprises when it came to Boise candidates and issues in Tuesday’s election.

Today we got some precinct results in Boise and there weren’t even any trends that popped up there. The turnout of nearly 30% of registered voters was certainly good to see, but we simply cannot buy claims that election results were any huge mandate or approval for more of the same.

Team Dave has certainly proven itself as a major force –perhaps the most powerful organization in the state– when comes to raising cash, timing ground breaking of new buildings, and getting out the vote.

We will be looking at attempts at social engineering through use and misuse of streets as Boise planners aim to cut street capacity and “get people out of their cars.”

We are still concerned the Foothills Levy is overly broad, but it was the top vote-getter in the entire race.

  1. Agreed, 30 percent turnout is pitifully low but much better than expected for city elections. And, for those who cared and/or knew enough to vote, there’s overwhelming support for the direction Team Boise is taking the city.

  2. I don’t think you should blame team Dave. Look at who was on the ballot. Judy should’t be dog catcher let alone mayor.

And hey if folks want to pay more tax…. what do you do?

  3. Boise voting is a textbook example of the term ochlocracy.
… and yes, I voted, but not for Dave

  4. Time to drop all pretentions and rename Boise to BieterVille.

    ochlocracy = mob rule

That’s not at all relevant to the situation in Boise. Sounds like maybe L.D. would prefer oligarchy (government by a few), which is what we have at the state and national level.

  6. What voters said in this election is that they are just fine giving more of their money to the mayor to spend.

They also supported the next taxation move of the mayor and that is to try to tax them more with a local option tax.

The only defense you have against all the money gong to the CCDC and getting slapped with a local tax is the legislature. Anyone who complains about high Boise taxes has only themselves to blame as the mayor and all the legislators in urban Boise fully support local option taxes and having you pay, pay and pay more.

If you want to know why people move to Meridian and Nampa is partly due to the fact that in Boise you pay more taxes and you will pay even more in the future.

  7. @Voter,

I’m fine with this if it means I get to live in a vastly superior locale. Move to Meridian or Nampa if you like, I prefer nice things… and nice things cost money.

I support the tax for open space land purchases but I don’t support the local option tax if it is for light rail or busses. You take the good with the bad, sometimes. There is no perfect candidate.

  9. Rod, You are wrong. Boise is an ochlocracy. The masses are miss informed, by the continuous rhetoric of corrupted and narcissistic politicos. Thus, they vote in block for those that are not doing any good for the community, but are slowly destroying the very fabric of the country… one bike lane at a time.

  10. It’s nothing to due with the foothills you idiots… it’s about adding another shell to the game of public funding for local developers.

Expect a trailhead fee soon from Boise.

Been in every state in America. Boise Valley is the last place in America with a sizable liveable city and reasonable taxes. Voters seem hellbent to change that.

The problem is the MSM failing to report the truth and the facts… reporting press release talking points BS instead. They are more concerned with who has the hottest babe sitting next to their anchorman then substance. All but two woman over 30 remaining on Boise newscasts.

Libtarded media through and through is destroying America with sheep herding techniques. Obviously the sheep are the most at fault of all. The young sheep are simply doing what they were taught in school, and by parents.

Strongly recommend viewing a movie called “Idiocracy”. We are living it now. Even 4-way stop intersections are running slower these days due to sheep looking at iPhones.

  11. Ochlocracy (Greek: ὀχλοκρατία, okhlokratía; Latin: ochlocratia) or mob rule is the rule of government by mob or a mass of people, or the intimidation of legitimate authorities. As a pejorative for majoritarianism, it is akin to the Latin phrase mobile vulgus meaning “the fickle crowd”, from which the English term “mob” was originally derived in the 1680s.

Hilarious! As one of those crazy protesters that has been fighting the Boise City government for 15 years, I can definitely say Team Dave is not intimidated in the least. Try attending one of the City Council meetings and count the cops in attendance. If anything, it’s the citizens who are intimidated.

Oligarchy is the correct term. Also, the personal automobile has been the most environmentally destructive force in the history of our planet. It’s universal acceptance has turned our country into a sprawling wasteland of fry shacks, strip malls and far flung bedroom communities. Bemoaning a few bike lanes is just pure evil.

I see our friends with the tin hats are out in force. OK, I give up. I’ll admit that the earth is flat, Obama and Bieter are Kenyan Muslims, Hillary is Satan, fluoride is a commie plot, as are bike lanes, I guess. CNN and CNBC are liberal media, Jeb! is a moderate, and Ben Carson tells the truth and is a real, well-rounded, well-educated intelligent guy. The moon landing never happened and 9/11 was an inside job.
