I like to thank Susan Ballenger for her comments about " boom ( idiot) boxes. I live near 1-84 and myrtle and the noise especially from those bike racers at midnight can be heard for miles! If it's any consolation susan, these are the types of People who BELIEVE that the more noise you make the more important you are. As for that boomguy I would have written his license down and called the police. That is cruelty to children. As to Jenny I applaud your ideas... the police, like the fire dept. and BUS DRIVERS should have the very best union contracts at all times.

A quick comment for bikeboy. It is great you got a badge in the scouts for Atomic Energy. I studied nuclear power production in college.

First off I have a copy of the diurnal winds per season for Boise from the National Weather Service. The main wind direction for winter, spring, and summer is from the south east. Only in the fall is the main direction from the west north west followed by the south east.

Yes, a reactor in good working order should not emit any emissions. The history of nuclear power is filled with examples of reactors emitting radioactivity in the air and water. Good current reading would include "Insurmountable Risks" The Dangers of Using Nuclear Power to Combat Global Climate Change. Nuclear power is also the most expensive way to generate electricity when all costs are taken into account. The waste issue still has not been solved.

You are correct the "Dave Team" has no jurisdiction but it didn't with the Atlanta Gold Mine either. Things like this effect many people and all the people that are effected should have a say in the matter. The anti-Boise growth people may like this idea because a lot less people and Fortune 500 companies will want to move to a city 40 miles down wind of the biggest nuclear power plant in the US.

I feel compelled to comment about John Weber's concerns regarding the proposed nuclear reactor (power generation) near Bruneau.

First of all, he says "we would be downwind."

Not very often, if ever. The prevailing winds almost always blow in the other direction. (Bruneau is downwind from Boise.)

Second, he's obviously implying that it would be bad to be downwind. (Like the wind will be carrying radioactivity or some such.)

Again, a functioning, undamaged reactor would emit nothing harmful. (Other than spent fuel, obviously... but it's not blowin' in the wind.)

Third... unless the area of impact has expanded, I don't believe Team Dave has any jurisdiction over Bruneau.

(I'm no expert on nuclear energy... just a layman. I got the Atomic Energy merit badge years ago, in Boy Scouts. Perhaps somebody could punch holes in my theories. I'll say this with conviction... I'd rather live downwind of a nuclear power plant, than a coal-fired power plant. Most of France's electricity is nuclear. Frankly, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better spot than Bruneau to build something like that.)
