Will TJ Offer Boise Council Panache?

We were impressed with today’s e-mail that could easily have been another “victory party” invitation from Boise’s newest councilor, T.J. Thomson. It shows plenty of PANACHE (for non library types: flamboyant confidence of style or manner).

Senior citizen/Councilor is known far and wide simply as “Vern” and it looks like we will have to go with “TJ” since he has pretty much trademarked the initials without the dots.

He invited the public to the swearing-in ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, but included the photos of incumbents Vern Bisterfeldt and Maryanne Jordan. He even placed the photo of himself between the two oldtimers.

  1. Uh, not to take away from TJ’s panache, but since Vern holds Seat 2 and Maryanne holds Seat 6, wouldn’t logical placement for TJ and Seat 4 be a spot between those two? Also, with all three taking the oath of office, sending an invitation to join “us” seemed reasonable too.

EDITOR NOTE–I guess it could also be noted that if you look at it alphabetically, he took cuts in line ahead of Jordan.

    “refreshments to follow”

Just wait, some anti-government- tea-bagger-militia type will complain about the cost of the refreshments.

  3. Never complain about store bought chocolate chip cookies, coffee and cocoa. Not very imaginative, but still good. Take a chill pill Rod. It is still early in the year.

Even at a minimal cost, I have a problem with that – is getting a job a good excuse to foot the bill for a party? Not in my world

EDITOR NOTE– Council caters dinner at almost every meeting and snacks & drinks for daytime work sessions. At least this time they are sharing with those who pay for the food.

  5. Say, this is nothing to do with this story but it kind of is city business: I noticed a new fire station on South Cole. How much did it cost? And how long have they been building it. It looks very very expensive and seems to be getting dragged out into a multi-year project.

  6. I am going to digress from my usual “tea-bagger” status and wish great success to TJ in steering the city of Boise in the right direction. His mom would be proud of the way he has conducted himself and pursued his dreams. His behind-the-scenes supporters are proud. Go get ’em, TJ!!! Eat a cookie for me!

  7. Why are you suprised???? When you have a full PR staff to do your PR work for you at tax payer expense???

Just more of the same…use city resources to promote yourself and make it look like you care but then tell the voters to go sit down and shut up if they show up to testify against anything you plan to do …regardless.

Rod: Do you have anything to say about George Bush, while you are attacking the right? This story is about the Democrat taking over seat 4. The vestigial republican(Vern) is only there for window dressing. Stay on topic.

See, I was right! “Follow the Money” did object to refreshments, and then Cyclops and Alva objected to me predicting that someone would.

Alva, city council elections are supposed to be non-partisan. And if you want to hear something negative about the worst elected official ever, I’m your guy!

  10. Rod in SE Boise – just curious, what’s your definition of a “tea bagger” since you throw it around so casually?

  11. I looked up “tea bagger” on the internet and it was quite naughty. I had no idea that’s what those guys were promoting. Look it up in the Urban Dictionary. Why do right wingers go for this kind of thing and call themselves patriotic?

  12. dog,

seriously. The ragers against the machine call themselves Tea Partiers. It’s the garafalos, obermans, maddows et al of the world that call them tea baggers – ain’t they cute. Also apparently Rod in SE Boise is being snarky, although since he hasn’t responded, maybe he hasn’t a clue or is just too ashamed to answer.

  13. Um . . . The pictures are in order of the seat on the Council they hold. Don’t criticize him for being able to put numerals in order; I would hope all our Council members can.

  14. Let’s hope TJ does a better job in his first year than his friend President Obama, I know that’s setting the bar low but seriously we can wish him good luck and hope he responds to people more readily than his cohorts. Especially in his first days in elected office with a big job ahead and some poor examples to learn from.
    Good Luck TJ
