On second thought, maybe they need to stay and work on restoring fairness, equality, and freedom to our society.

Fairness because the playing field is steeply tilted in favor of large corporations and wealthy individuals. They need to pay their fair share of taxes.

Equality because we also need a single justice system in this country. Currently we have one harsh justice system for minorities and the poor, another very lenient system for the wealthy, celebrities, politicians, and legal system employees. The third justice system is for the rest of us, and we should all be in that system.

Freedom, as in personal freedom. We need a political system free from the influence of corporations. We need legalization of pot, deregulation of alcoholic beverages and freedom from helmet laws, seat belt laws, etc.

EDITOR NOTE--Rod, you are asking for waaaay too much. What do you think this is 1776?

Our "leaders" need to stick to real issues, not causes. I find it sad that PERSI retirees will get a COLA when seniors and our fighting men and women and veterans did not, despite overwhelming proof of inflation. Too bad emissions testing can't clear the air from between the ears of our elected officials who look out for themselves (full benefits for part-time work when cutting those same benefits for others; those part-timers work just as hard.) Also, who can hire new people for tax incentives when there isn't any work??? It's turning out to be yet another sterling year of idaho politics as usual. Please go home early and save decent taxpayers enough money to pay their mortgages and taxes, buy food and gas and have one night's peaceful sleep.

For the Guardian to say the the Democrats voted against God is ridiculous. They voted against the racist part of that bill about banning other languages than English.

IMO they should have voted against God. He has too many followers on this planet who are insane.

EDITOR NOTE-- Of course it's ridiculous! That's why we said it. Lighten up a bit, all sides were ridiculous to even consider the resolution. Note what GOD had to say!

Yo, Jarvis. Trust me on this buddy, I did not create you in my image. (That goes for the rest of you as well.)

Listen to the Guardian, Jarvis. Go home. Do not come out again. Forever and ever. And take the rest of that legislature with you. Oh, and grab Silsby while you're at it. I would send you all to hell, but it is too good for the likes of you.

One more thing, leave the one they call Otter behind. People need something to laugh at.

Sincerely,
HIghest of the High

Probably gonna get torn apart for this, but this was a dumb waste of the legislature's time. First of all, God doesn't need any help from the Idaho State legislature. He's pretty front and center in most things social and political in this country. See the intense, massive spin control Obama had to go through simply because there was a RUMOR that he was a Muslim. Nearly every speech given by nearly politician ends with "God bless America," and they are quite specifically referring to a Protestant, Christian God. The phrase "In God we trust" is printed on every coin we stamp and every bill that rolls off the presses. So, "God's place in America," for good or ill, is pretty well cemented in. Second, by saying people should "reserve a place for God" the legislature is giving the finger to all their constituents who either don't believe in any God, or happen to believe in some God or Gods other than the one that the legislature is promulgating. By passing this, they're pretty explicitly saying to all these people "We don't recognize, endorse, or support your closely held beliefs. We do not consider you and yours important."

On to the support of English as a national language. Such measures are racist. Full stop. No one who ever talks about keeping America an "English-speaking nation" is concerned about German or French or Gaelic or Italian or Russian or Finnish or Swedish or any other language generally associated with (mostly) white, western/northern European countries. They are concerned about brown people who speak Spanish coming over our southern border. Such resolutions are racist, and passing them gives a wink and nod to others who harbor racist sentiments. It says, "We know how you feel, and we agree." Second, the language habits of immigrants who don't speak the dominant language in their adopted county follow a very predictable pattern: Adults who come to America not speaking English will generally learn just enough to get by in whatever they have going on; this could be anywhere from extremely little English language skill, to a high degree of competency. Any children they have that are born here and any small children they bring with them (less than 10 or so) will probably become fully bilingual. Their children will speak English fluently and almost exclusively; they will most likely speak very little to none of their grandparents native language. So, any "threat" to America posed by non-fluent citizens will be eradicated within 30 or so years. People talk about a national language creating "cohesion" or "unity" in the country, and to that I say BS. A common language didn't stop us from warring with British for our independence. It stop us from warring with ourselves in the Civil War. And Switzerland, that famously neutral of all countries, has 4 national languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh) and I don't see that fact sowing a lot of discord there.

A dumb waste of their time, and by extension as taxpayers, ours. A bunch of privileged men and women exercising that privilege without any concern as to what it looks like to someone who doesn't look, talk and pray like them.
