Wow, representative republic, what a concept. I have always found it interesting that the cities in Ada County do not have districts for voting. We have districts for state legislature, congress and senate so the concept is not that unique. This always seemed backwards to me and sets up a scenario where all members of a city council can live in one part of the city, the north end for example. There are pros and cons to each option but I would rather have the person representing me live at least in the same area.

I give Mr. Richardson all the credit for making ACHD much more “bike-friendly.” At the time, then-president Huber resisted any efforts to include bike-friendly infrastructure, such as bike lanes, wide outside lanes, etc. Policies and practices have changed for the better. (Of course, I see the world through the eyes of a cyclist.)

A fond memory is when Ms. Huber scheduled a public hearing on bicycles… on a weekday afternoon – in Kuna! Imagine her surprise when a group of perhaps 15 cyclists rode together to Kuna to attend and testify. (My friend Jim and I rode home afterwards, too… most of ’em got rides home.)

Vandals are people too! And I bet he still roots for BSU, when they don’t play each other.

ACHD created the districts to protect themselves and ensure they could get re – elected. A common trick with local governments in these parts.

EDITOR NOTE– Actually this was slipped through the legislature by Boise City previous admin and it was a move to unseat the liberal Gary Richardson. It worked which was a shame.

I s’pose it was smart of Mr. Klinchuch to admit up-front that he’s a Vandal. His opponent (would that be incumbent Huber, I assume?) would’ve dug up THAT dirt on him, and probably made it known 5 days before the election! (nudge-nudge, wink-wink)

I preferred the “old” commissioner voting which was more like the City Council. All citizens vote for all districts, instead of the provincial setup they replaced it with.
