The will call does sound like a good idea, but I get mine by mail also. But there are extenuating circumstances occasionally for people.

Actually, now that the DMV has moved from Barrister to Benjamin, the wait is almost non-existent anyway. Maybe I just go at the right times.

However, what is ridiculous is a rather new state law that links your driver’s license/social security number to your registration. If you have two people on the registration, you have to have the numbers for both of them. Except if you don’t want to give the social security number (a number BTW that was NEVER supposed to be used for ID) and you don’t know the other person’s driver’s license number, well, then the clerk can access that anyway!

Another step on the way to a complete police state.

You will also need a valid driver’s license and will have to enter that number as a fraud feature of this service.

Fiona, you’re correct. You do need the post card. It has a special number on it which needs to be entered on the online registration form.

I guess this is some kind of safety measure to ensure bad guys don’t register their vehicles under someone else’s name.

Great idea, good to know that these offices DO understand that people have lives which are busy and hectic, I think that Bob McQuade has done a lot in the way of improving services and wish that other County and ALL State agencies would do likewise. I do not understand why public offices are not open one or two late evenings and on Saturdays – even Sundays. If the libraries manage it with their bare-bone budgets other service offices ought to be able to do so.

If you have the postcard with all the vehicle data you can renew online. If you don’t have the card then you are probably stuck with going into the DMV office and doing the renewal.

If anybody out there knows for sure it would be nice to know.

Agree with Paul. I renew online and get the stickers through the mail. Does not work if your tags have expired though.

I have used the online services available direct from IDOT for several years. It is quick, easy and involves zero time on the road or waiting in line. I think the processing fee is about $0.70/vehicle renewal.

The receipt is valid proof of license renewal until you receive the stickers or plates via USPS. The turnaround is just a couple of days. The website is very user-friendly and is open for business 24/7 via your computer.
