After 52 Years, Vern To Leave Public Service

Ada Commish Vern Bisterfeldt confided with the GUARDIAN Tuesday that he will not seek reelection to his seat.

Citing personal health concerns, Bisterfeldt said he was gratified to have had the opportunity to serve the citizens of Boise and Ada County for half a century and wanted to thank everyone for the support they have offered him over the years.

He has been elected for two stints as an Ada Commish and also served several terms on the Boise City Council as well. Always a copper at heart, he retired with the rank of Captain from the Boise PD.

After the redistricting mandated by law every 10 years, Bisterfeldt and Commish Sharon Ullman ended up in the same district. It was no secret the two had little love for each other and it appeared to the GUARDIAN that Vern saw his role on the commission as a “watchdog” role to keep Ullman in line as much as anything.

Former copper and city councilor Jim Tibbs made it official Tuesday that he will seek a vacant seat (formerly Bisterfeldt’s) on the Ada Commission. Both Tibbs and Ullman are currently unopposed.

  1. Congratulations Vern on all your years of public service. Too bad you did not go 10 years ago. You will be remembered for the mess Ada County Misdemeanor Probation Services became under your watchful eye.

  2. I’ll tip my hat to Vern in this deal. He did a good thing and has probably removed a lot of stress from his life.

  3. Best news I have heard in a long time…

  4. Good news! I agree with smeg.

  5. I also agree with Smeg. It’s time for Vern to say goodbye. When you try to look out for your “friends” like Nancy Cladis and give them lucrative contracts without the support of the people it’s remembered by many especially when your “friends” make a mess of that situation as most have seen with ACMP. I do wish you well Vern as it’s my nature not to wish anyone ill will I’m just glad to see it come to an end
