ACHD Has App To Report Street Issues

While they haven’t issued shovels to motorists yet, ACHD has a new app for electronic devices which allows drivers to report issues electronically–as long as they don’t text and drive.Business woman standing outside in front of office building, using mobile phone --- Image by © Royalty-Free/Corbis

Now you can connect to the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) and report roadway issues from your smartphone. We took a look at it and you can even send pictures and put the problem in your GPS cross hairs.

The new “ACHD Reporter” smartphone application (app) allows users to snap a picture, note the location on a map, provide details, and send it to ACHD for follow up. App users can report an icy roadway, plugged storm drain, sight obstruction, signal malfunction or file an issue through an “other” category.

The app was developed as another method for the public to easily connect with ACHD and help serve as additional eyes and ears on the road. With more than 2,200 miles of roadway to maintain, ACHD relies heavily on the public to help identify potential issues on Ada County roads.

Each year, ACHD responds to approximately 1,200 e-mail inquiries from the public to its long-standing [email protected] e-mail address, which allows people to voice concerns, report issues and share complaints. Unlike e-mail contact, app users will not receive a personal response.

The ACHD Reporter app is free; Android-users may download it from the Google Play Store and iPhone users on iTunes. For step-by-step instructions on how to use the app, visit www.achdidaho.org.

Emergency situations should be reported to 9-1-1 or by calling the Ada County non-emergency phone number, 377-6790.
ACHD does not condone cell phone use when driving. Users are encouraged to use the app only when they are not operating a vehicle.
