Bieter At Boehner $50 Fund Raiser For Simpson

OK, we admit it. The GUARDIAN enjoys raising questions with regard to politico fund raising. When we heard Boise Mayor Dave Bieter, an avowed Dem, was introduced at a $50 a plate fund raiser for Repub Rep. Mike Simpson Monday, we wondered who paid.

Did Bieter have to pay to get in to hear U.S. House Speaker John Boehner? If he did, was it on the back of Boise taxpayers? If someone gave him a ticket, does he declare the $50 value as a gift because it is over the $25 legal limit? Can the City spend cash for political fund raisers?

Then, of course we have all those city lobbyists who chase state and federal money. Were any of them in attendance and again who paid? Just wondering.

You calling Bieter a “Democrat” makes me chuckle. He and his city council are so pro-business they should be registered Republicans.

Democratic politicians in Idaho would be Republicans anywhere else in the country, with the exception of rebel territory.

$50 is not much to hear the Speaker of the House speak. Does that indicate how desperate the Republicans are after alienating (declaring war on) women, minorities, college students, working class Americans, middle class Americans, and anyone else who is not a rich white man?

  2. A wise man (Cyclops) once said: The Boise mayors race is a non-partisan race and the candidates should be ” labeled” by issues, not party affiliation.

  3. The trivial gift limit is $50. I.C §18-1359

EDITOR NOTE–Inflation has taken its toll!

  4. All I want to know is did the Mayor give the Speaker a big hug?

  5. …and did the speaker tear up?

  6. rabula wins! (Hilarious! I think I’m tearing up!)

And I like Rod’s observation. Everybody knows that Democrats HATE business and commerce! (And maybe all those downtrodden, underprivileged groups were able to buy tickets to hear Speaker Boehner.)
