The problem is that ignoring these rules has led to a plateau instead of decline of this deadly virus. Average of 2,000 deaths in the USA every day for the last 2 weeks.

Now people that can't see further than their nose are insisting on ending quarantine. Instead of 3 hot spots (WA, CA, NY), we'll start with 3,000 hot spots in every nook and cranny of the country. Instead of slowing down doubling the infections every 14 days, we'll go back to doubling every 5. There's a reason why the second wave of the 1918 flu was twice as big - this next wave will be much more deadly once hospitals are overrun. NY was a picnic compared to the next 3 months. In 1919, a Philadelphia parade attended by 200k people ended in 5k flu deaths.

I've seen this in other countries as it happened. Most people here haven't seen it and haven't even read the history. Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat the worst parts. Think about talking with your buddies at the fishing dock when your parents or grandparents or friends are struggling to breath from the virus you spread. And when the deaths start up, you can't slow it down because of the 3 week lag between infections and terminal.

Many of the activities you mention are IDEAL for "social distancing." Why make people hole up at home, if they can be out catching a few rays and doing something enjoyable, even though "socially distant"?

I'm a little more disturbed by the groups of a dozen or 20 people gathered in parks and such, and making no pretense at being six feet apart. (Probably the same "special" folks who don't have to pick up their litter, clean up after their dogs, etc.)

If you're wondering about tickets and arrests... I can say with relative confidence that unless you're doing something really awful, you might get a ticket but you won't get hauled into da joint. In normal times, there are typically 40 or 50 arrests listed on the Sheriff's website on any particular day... lately it's been more like six or maybe ten. (I'd guess they're concerned about the spread of the illness between people in tight, jail-like quarters.)

EDITOR NOTE--From a practical standpoint, it would also be difficult to give someone a "speedy trial" since the courts are closed.

With a whopping 4 new confirmed cases yesterday it seems time for Idaho to experiment with opening parks, rivers and lakes, not to mention the small businesses that service these. I am entirely unsure if another 10 days is required. Idaho has been below R0 = 1 for weeks now. Being below 1 is the marker required, as Germany has noted. Germany is opening back up now. Changes will need to be made and monitoring will require people to self-report immediately if they show symptoms or have come into contact with a newly infected. It's science. Wash your hands and wear a mask and get on with your lives.

America and the world will survive, overcome, and thrive again. My largest concern is all the nut jobs who will get pushed over the edge they've been walking on for years.... when once again they are proven wrong.

And please shave that crap off your face, you look like a Taliban when in reality you're living a good life in America. If your life was 1/3 as good as it is right now you'd still way ahead of a Taliban.

This crisis is an opportunity to serve your community and country, not tear it down, not hope for failure. The common enemy is a virus not your elder neighbor with a face mask on.

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.
 - Patrick Henry

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom - go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Correction : Zero Hedge is published in Canada, has been around a long time, and is generally regarded worldwide as one of the last news aggregators that isn’t 100% Oligarch propaganda.

A lot to think about... But we in Idaho are coming from an experience of limited exposure and risk. I imagine those in NY, Italy, Spain, France and England may have a different perspective. I recently read that after the economy is opned back up, to expect a second outbreak. Those is in the big cities with large numbers of cases, have probably built up a herd immunity, those with little exposure like Idaho probablly have not. Without full blown testing to actually verify who has had it and has not, it is all guess work. In IFF's recent call to action and protest, Wayne Hoffman stressed the importance of individual responsibility. Business owners can take precautions to protect their employees, their customers and their place of business. Then at the actual protest, no one that I saw practiced any of the protocol, proving the lack of oveeralll individual responsibility. This is a no win situation for political leaders. Either over react and reduce exposure and nunmber of cases, while tanking the economy. Or under react, risk a large number of cases, over burdening the health care system and in the end tank the economy anyway. Again, in idaho we have the luxury of low risk, low case numbers, low numbeer of deaths. Is it because we are"special" or due to the shut down, social distancing, or low population densities, or all of above? Whether we like it or not, each of us effect others. If you want to "rebel" go fishing, hiking or ust recreating, do it, I do, just take precations to protect you, your family and protect others from you. Each of us have different risk levels.
