ACHD: Two weeks ago we had a sign show up on our street showing our road was closed. Nobody knew what was going on. We got down to the end of our cul-de-sac and some people were digging up our street and over the last two weeks they have dug up our whole cul-de-sac. Now it’s mud. Yesterday we had relatives coming through and you can’t even pull in our driveway because it’s mud. It is 2 inches of mud. I’m carrying my kids to my car. ACHD has a recording on their machine. No one calls you back or anything. I’m out here talking to these construction workers working on this house next door and they say they have no plans to pave it anytime soon. I’m wondering how long I have to walk through mud to get to my car and carry my kids to the car. If someone has an answer, I’d appreciate it, thanks.
Cab driver complaint: I just had a cab bring me from the airport to my home. I was just released by a cab driver and it just makes me mad thinking that out of town people could experience the same thing. I’m sorry I don’t have his name but I think I’ll take my car and drive out and see if I see his cab waiting in line. Maybe I can find out. What he did is he had no change to give back from my twenty dollar bill and I live by the canal, within a mile almost of the airport and it cost me $12 for the fare. The fare was $8.50 but $3.50 for his tip for one suitcase and one person. He was just mad because I lived so close. Anyway, that’s my complaint.

Ada County: She called to complain about a Jason or John at Boise City Dispatch. She wanted to talk to the sergeant on duty and the person on Dispatch said he couldn’t transfer the call without knowing the nature of the call. She stated she was stuck behind traffic on the interstate because the traffic is horrendous and wanted to get a reserve officer out on the interstate to direct traffic so the possibility of accidents was minimized. She stated he was very rude and said that her issue was not an emergency. She thought that was extremely unprofessional and careless. She lives in Ontario and commutes.
everyday to work. She has never been so rudely treated. She would like a response back as soon as possible.
BPD: Joe called regarding a robbery in his neighborhood on 27th and Stewart Street. There was a van full of people stealing this morning. He called the police dispatch two hours ago and no one showed up. The person on the phone said the police were, “too busy.” He thinks this is ridiculous and that this is a serious matter. He is getting the idea that the police are too lazy to protect the citizens of Boise.

SENIORS DON’T PLAY NICE, BUS DRIVERS DON’T PLAY NICE, BHS PRINCIPAL BUSTED

12/7/06
Bob Lally
Boise Senior Center: Previously I talked to a lady named Heather at the Mayor’s Office about a broken T.V. at the Boise Senior Center. I needed to make that call because the manager would not have it fixed or have another one put in. Within days, a new one was put in. Previous to that, I asked the manager to remove an object from in front of the door that endangered senior citizens if there was a fire there. The manager said he could care less. I called the Boise Fire Marshall. He went down and looked at the situation and he had the item removed. I have had a running situation with the administration of the Boise Senior Solutions office and the administration of the Senior Center. I have been a volunteer there for 10 or 12 years.

Another situation, I was singing a song with the piano player, Margaret Harrison. She pointed out the words as we sang and she played for the lunch group. I commented to her on how she looked that day and someone heard and thought it was inconsiderate, sexual abuse and complained to the manager of the senior center. I was never interviewed or told whose complaint it was and the only way I found out was when they called in Margaret Harrison and she laughed. We have been friends for 10 years and there was nothing ever done. This has been going on for several years and I received a letter today from the Boise Senior Solutions director, Jan Rader, that if I made another complaint or threatened anyone in any form, I would be asked not to do it again, and if I did, they would take legal action to keep me from coming to the center for lunch or other activities.

I understand the City has a budget for the center that amounts to $280,000 as I was told by that director, Jan Rader, several years ago. I feel that my civil rights are being denied and as a tax payer, I would like to know if there are any conditions that go along with treating the citizens of Boise as they do at the center.

12/4/06
Police Needed
At the corner of 10th and Franklin behind Boise High, we in the neighborhood appreciate the most recent officers presence but as is often the case, it’s a short lived endeavor. The SRO made a big show about how he went over there to pick up the slack after the officer had left. That lasted about four days and now there’s no one out there again and once again students and faculty are treating the four way stop signs as mere suggestions and Franklin between 13th and 9th as Daytona 500. Speaking with Principal Ken Anderson is pretty much worthless since he set this off by rolling through a 4 way stop talking on his cell phone and juggling a cup of coffee one way. You will find that a good number ticketed were teachers and staff at the high school. Nice example they set. So, in short, we need police presence ongoing at 10th and Franklin, especially pre zero hour at 6 in the morning. But basically anytime the kids are coming to and from school is when you need cops. I’m sure statistics will show from the number of tickets written that it’s needed and if it’s a question of cost, I think the tickets pay for the officer being there. Thank you.

ValleyRide: You got to do something about this bus service. These bus drivers are rude and they would better serve as prison guards. I just called the bus service and had the supervisor of the bus drivers be rude and hang up without giving me his name. If we are going to give them tax payer money, then you need to tell them what to do. I’ve called you about this before and it’s getting old. You have to do something about this bus service. It stinks.
Parade: Mayor, I have a suggestion. The BSU football team just won the WAC championship for the 5th time and is going to a national bowl. These kids have really stepped up that program and Boise has received a lot of publicity and is going to as a result of this. My suggestion is that the City of Boise step up and show some gratitude toward the players and the program. I suggest some sort or parade prior to the team leaving for Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl. This could be coordinated through the staff at BSU to coincide with their schedule. I just think the players would be so happy to have something like this to happen and it’d be a great send off to them. I think the people of the City of Boise would love to come out to support such a gesture. If you think that’s beneficial, I’d appreciate some feedback and we’d like to see it get done. Thank you very much for your time and keep up the good work. Thank you.
BPD: I called the other day and spoke to you about the homeless issue. I just have a comment and a compliment. Last night I was volunteering at the Interfaith Sanctuary when they opened at the old Carnegie Library there on Washington between 8th and 9th. During the snow storm around 9:00 if I remember correctly an officer from the BPD brought a gentleman in who was incredibly intoxicated and had urinated on himself. The officer was incredibly professional and very compassionate in dealing with this man. He picked him up actually he was passed out in a gutter in front of the River of Life building. He brought him to our facility and we brought him in. But I’ve talked to LT. Tony Plot about this incident or act of compassion rather. I wanted to write a complimentary note and he’s trying to track down the name of the officer. The officer like I said was very compassionate and very professional and this is the kind of act that needs to go noticed instead of just another typical thing. Anyways I thought I’d pass it on to you guys as well to let you know that there is some amazing professionalism going on in our police department. You know that as well as I do, but too often they don’t make the news. Thanks for following up if you can, bye.
BFI: I’m calling about trash pickup. I have called about it before. I’m having trouble with it again. The trash pickup problem is at 3836 and 3838 McGonagal. Three weeks ago I called the trash people about some allied waste pick up and I put my signs up there the way they instructed me to do it and here it is more than 3 weeks later and that trash is still sitting there with my sign on it. I have called them at least 4 times in the meantime. I simply do not know what to do about this problem. All they do is tell me they will tell their drivers whatever they need to tell them but they don’t seem to get the message to them. I am very frustrated. If you can get that problem solved for me I’d appreciate it very much. Thank you, bye.
Futuristic School by Microsoft: I got some information from the Governor’s office about this fascinating thing you may know about it called the school of the future and it was a joint project between the Philadelphia Public School District, the City of Philadelphia, and also the Microsoft Company. It’s a pet project of Bill Gates. It has to do with building a school that is so innovative and futuristic that’s it’s a prototype for an ideal way of educating our youth. I wanted you to look at it online and get some interesting ideas so we might be able to do that for our kids at some point in the future. It’s Philadelphia school of the future by Microsoft. You will probably be able to figure it out online. Thank you.
Abandoned Cars: I have a question and concern about several junk cars that are parked outside. I believe the address is really on Cloverdale, which backs up to my yard. They are next to the Serenity Alzheimer’s unit. They have a couple of junk cars out front but really out back is really where my concern is. They have several and they have added a couple of additional cars out there. It backs right up to my fence and right back there is a pond and drainage ditch. We are all on septic tanks and well water so I’m a little concerned about what might be seeping into the water possibly so I was wondering if someone could come take a look. Thank you.
Boise, ID 83704
Support for Mayor: My comment is that Mayor Bieter, I would like to see you canonized right along with Mother Teresa. I just think you and your staff are doing such a terrific job. I noticed that during the holiday season how often you are the topic of conversation and the conversations always lack such good will and concern and compassion and fairness in this community. I just want to see that I think you are exemplary politician and what a stunning job you do to make this world a better place. Happy Holidays to you and your staff and peace be with you with you and your family. Thank you very, very much on behalf of the people of Boise.
Pedestrians: She has a concern about pedestrians crossing at 10th and Front. The pedestrians run out in front of traffic because there is no crosswalk or light there for them to use. She stated it looks like they are coming from businesses downtown and parking across Front St. in the open parking lot. She’s worried there will be a terrible accident and would like to talk to someone about this.

11/22/06
Signs: This message is for the Mayor and City Council. I’m calling regarding sidewalk closures in downtown Boise, especially on Myrtle and 13th. They have a big giant sign from a condo project and they are hogging the whole sidewalk and there is no reason to have it closed. Then downtown across from the Owyhee Plaza on Main; I don’t understand why you guys can grant these people to close the sidewalks in the cities. It limits access to bike riders, skate boarders, people in wheelchairs. It is something that needs to be looked into. Also the busses don’t have anyone on them. I don’t understand why they are still running. But, otherwise I think Dave Bieter does a terrific job. Thank you and have a great holiday.
Phil Braun
10936W Bumblebee Drive
Boise, ID 83713
Salvation Army: He hopes the city will defend the right to have a religious service in the community house. The Constitution says there will be no law keeping us from the exercise of free religion. Where is the exercise? They should talk to the group American Center for Law and Justice. It may represent the City for free. The City shouldn’t be scared to stop religious freedom. 90% of the district report cases have been overturned at the Supreme Court level. He thinks we should appeal.
M/CC

11/20/06
Anonymous
Taxis: There has been changes downtown with the taxi cabs not being able to pick up people and there have been cases of police harassment about being forced to leave downtown against your will. They used to force people to get in a cab but a lot of the violence is getting worse. The reason why it’s gotten worse is because police officers have to stop crime. They are now more focused on the people j-walking and have to play the babysitters for people trying to get cabs. I just see that the moving of taxi cabs down a block is very inconvenient for the people downtown. I understand the crowding problem but crowding doesn’t stop fights. It’s those individuals that are too drunk.
BPD/ACHD: The heavy use of semi trucks on Cloverdale is dangerous and frustrating. There is at any given time 4-5 semi’s between Columbia and Victory on Cloverdale. They drive too fast and without caution. Just saw one about sideswipe a school bus today. They don’t care about the rest of the people on the road and there are too many of them. There needs to be some sort of a truck route if the truck traffic is going to remain this heavy. It’s not a safe or pleasant place to be.
Complaint: BSU tells her that Boise City is the one that names the streets in the University complex. One of the streets has been named Caesar Chavez Lane. She wants to complain about the name and find out who is responsible and ask them to change that. Her reason for complaint is there are many Idaho names that could be put to the Morrison Center. Caesar Chavez doesn’t relate to it. In the newspaper it’s advertising the address and it doesn’t make sense to put it near the Morrison Center.
David Countryman
3101 Ridgeway
Boise, ID 83702
Abandoned Vehicles: This is regarding the Britney Apartments, which is at the bottom of the hill where I live. They are again pushing cars out onto the road to be abandoned. There are two new vehicles. This time they are in the bike lane on Hill Road and this appears to be a common practice by this facility. The facility appears to have one entirely empty building from a fire that will probably never be rebuilt. Another building appears to be empty and non-inhabitable since they re roofed it a year or so ago. I’m concerned that this facility continues to be a general declining nemesis. I’m wondering if the city ever intends to do anything to negotiate some change there. Thank you.
BPD

11/23/06
Nicole Burdeck
Homeless Grants: I’m calling about the homeless grants for the homeless housing and if I can get a response back on that. I was told to call the Mayor’s Hotline through the Channel 12 news. If you can get back to me, that’d be great. Thanks, bye.
Action Taken: contacted

Sara Bonner
City Ordinance Comment: I’m calling in regard to the Boise City Council’s decision to move the vendors and cab drivers across the street, which I feel is a threat to all of us patrons walking across the street. It requires us to get in the line of traffic. This is something that’s a big concern to me and a lot of our friends. If you have any questions, we’d like to discuss that with you. Thank you.

Taxi/Vendor: Even though I’m not a resident of Boise, I do frequent the downtown area. As far as the problem with the push cart vendors and the taxi cabs, and the fights, I just want to weigh in there. The push carts and the taxis aren’t the problem, it’s the drunks. I think it’s totally ludicrous and in violation to the principles of this problem that you don’t deal with the problem. Deal with the problem, which are the drunks. In fact, because of that, my wife and I have many times said, “Do we really want to go downtown because of the problems that occur?” The drunks are providing no service to the citizens of Idaho. Get rid of them. Thank you.
Opposition to new school site: I would like to let the Mayor know that the Harris Ranch Neighborhood Association is opposed to the new school site that the Boise Independent School District has entered into a purchase agreement with David Turnbull. We are fully in support of the master planning process that has been developed by the Harris family and Harris Ranch Development. In support of that master planning process, prefer the original school site that was identified in that process which was located near Eckert Rd across from the Alta Harris park. We greatly appreciate your attention to this matter. Thank you very much.
Community House: I’m calling to express my concern and disappointment and amazement that the city would continue to fight this case regarding the Community House. I think in the article in the paper, the city is trying to claim that it’s a complex issue but really it’s a pretty simple issue. The first issue is it’s not legal in government property to discriminate against women and children. You lost on that the first time and you’re going to lose again. The second issue is that government can’t promote religion. I’m especially shocked you’d continue to fight this particular argument in light of the fact that in the City of Boise, 37,000 people just voted to say no, we do want a separation of church and state. It concerns me that you are going to use city money to continue to fight this suit when you have many other needs and you know you’re probably going to lose. I’m quite certain that if you, Mayor, and the City Council had to pay the fees of fighting this appeal if you lost, you wouldn’t go forward. The only thing I can see happen is the public is going to have to express their outrage that you continue to use tax payer dollars to fight these two issues where you are clearly in violation of the Constitution. I will personally do whatever I can to stop you from continuing this outrageous behavior.
Atlanta Gold: I’m calling because I’m not sure if I can make it to the meeting tonight on the Atlanta Gold Mine and I have very strong objections to the mine going in. If there’s anything I can do besides making phone calls. I’ve already given money in signed petitions but if there’s anything else, you can call me back. If you can pretend I called 1,000 times and mark me down 1,000 times against this stupid gold mine, then do it. Thanks very much and thanks for having the Mayor’s hotline.
Dog issue: She has a dog problem. At 7am the dog was howling across the street. She thinks maybe the dog is having a problem with the cold. It was 30 degrees this morning. She called the humane society, called the police and they referred her to animal control. No one was available. 6 hours later animal control showed up and put a ticket on people’s door for barking. They called her and told her what they had done. She talked with Officer McCall of animal control. He told her dogs don’t freeze in the cold and that the dog was fine. They just gave the owners a warning for dog barking. He told her if there’s shelter, like a dog house, it is fine. No homeowner can be forced to have the dog go inside. The only thing we can complain about is the dog barking. She wants to see the law changed. According to the vet, the dog is in danger below 40 degrees. It’s barking is valuable in the neighborhood watching out for culprits. The dog barks like a cry for help.

Comments and Concerns: I have four concerns. One is about the Community House, Rescue Mission. If Roscoe doesn’t think men and children and families should live together, then why would he want to put it in the middle of where children and families live at this time? If they can’t live in the same building, why would they want to live in the same neighborhood? Especially if he sells the other one downtown and lets sexual predators plus pushing religion on people is wrong. Second is about the library downtown. You guys need to go to other cities and look like the Chamber of Commerce did and other people. Salt Lake City. If you want a vibrant downtown, you need a library downtown. Where do you get the money? Sell some of that extra property you all think you need to have and quit worrying about all these neighborhood libraries and have a beautiful downtown library to make some vibrant living downtown. Until you have people live downtown, you’ll never have good retail and other things that makes the downtown area grow. Go to other cities and look around. We have one of the worst pedestrian cities in the northwest. Why? Because you have rounded cities, one way streets, and you don’t care about that obviously. About the cab vendors on 6th and Main St. the problem is getting the cars off Capitol and 6th and let them park somewhere in the garages on other streets. Not on the corner of downtown. Go to other cities like Austin, TX where all the bars are in the same area and there’s no cars and there are places to walk. It’s all about walking, not driving. You’re forcing people to drive and drink. I’ve been downtown and I’ve rode cabs and a lot of my friends ride cabs. It’s a pain in the rear. If you had the cabs in a cab lane, it would work 150% better. Go to other cities and look. Another thing, you have an ordinance. If you don’t use the patio in a certain amount of time, they are supposed to be taken down. Why are you guys not forcing the ordinances? Or is the downtown association pushing you not to? On 8th St. where CCDC runs the ordinance for the space, they are all pushed back the right length and you can walk around. Where you have outdoor patios out there, you can’t walk two by two, you can barely walk by one. Now around 6th and Main, it is the same thing. They are not supposed to be permanent. Read your ordinance. You need to talk to the people that live here about sexual predators too. One thing they want me to ask is, Mayor Bieter and the rest of the City Council, do you believe in protecting our children? If you say yes then we need to do more about sexual predators. I know you’re not the judge and jury, but let’s do something for the children. They have to live with it the rest of their lives. We need to teach society there is no cure. Quit believing there is. Don’t let the doctor out here at the Correction Institution tell you anything different. If you believe and you want to stay in office, let your citizens know how you stand. Quit hiding behind your walls. It’s time to speak up. If you want a vibrant downtown, don’t do what the last City Hall did before and ran it like Nordstroms out of town that never will come here. Let’s have a vibrant downtown. Another thing is, if you want a vibrant downtown; let it roll like it’s going to. Don’t worry about bringing families in here. If there’s kids, that’s fine. Quit being like the Boise School District and worrying about having more kids so they can get more money from the government per child. Lets downsize but lets make is safe. Work with the builders, developers, people that live there. Another thing is about the skinny houses up off of Vista areas up on the bench. If you go look at some of those old homes, they never had it cleaned up until these new skinny houses came in. If you go to Phoenix with these self-contained communities, you walk behind houses and meet your neighbor. I guarantee you the majority of these people don’t know their neighbors. When you walk behind back yards in Phoenix in these communities, you meet people. I did. You don’t meet neighbors because everyone drives in their garage, shuts the door, and goes in the back yard in the summer and their house in the winter. Don’t tell me these people are worried about their neighborhoods. They are worried about change. Change can be good and can be bad. It’s all up to you and the citizens of this city. You have a good winter. Bye.
BFI : I think if I was running the garbage company, my game would be to collect as little garbage as we can. For instance, if it’s a rainy night, I’d have the recycle truck pull up prior to 8am. People are not going to set their recyclables out on the curb when it’s raining. If it is the time for picking up leaves, I would pick them up sporadically in the morning or afternoon. I’d have the guys in the truck pick them up beforehand or afterwards so in the event that the homeowners will have no idea when to expect leaf pickup. Such as today, Thursday, the 16th, it’s raining this morning. I set my leaves out after calling BFI and being assured they would pick them up anytime they want. I think if I was them, I would figure out better plans for not picking up garbage. I mean hell; it saves effort, gas, and everything else. Goodbye.
BPR: Wants the City to install a waste bin on the corner of Northview and Curtis. People come to Winsted Park, walk their dogs, use the plastic bags but toss it over his fence into his yard. He wants a resolution and for a trash bin to be put in that area so he doesn’t have to deal with this anymore.
Homelessness in Boise: I was calling to ask what the mayor’s viewpoint of homelessness in Boise is. On whether or not it has increased with population or decreased with the abilities of the sanctuaries, rescue mission, and other social services and if they have helped in reducing the amount of homeless people in the City of Boise. Thank you.
PW: I wanted to encourage the Mayor’s Office to look into getting a program on gardens and even turfs on the tops of office buildings downtown. It saves a tremendous amount of energy costs and it’s not very expensive to implement it. It’s done a lot in other cities. For example, Seattle, Washington has a lot of that. It makes it incredibly beautiful, increases property values and it also cuts down dramatically on heating and cooling costs of the building. I’ll look into it and see if I can get more information for your office. Thank you.
Legal: I’m calling in regards to Chuck Winder and the way they blackballed him before the election 2 years ago. Also, someone called back saying something is being done but there is nothing that I have heard of on the news about Dave Leroy and Litster. They were part of it and nothing has happened…

Boise, ID 83712

Airport: My question is whether there is any plan to provide more parking someday at the airport. I’ve been here almost an hour now. I thought I had plenty of time for my flight but because of the poor IT systems, the lack of up to date information on parking, and bad information on part of the airport staff, it’s taken almost an hour to find parking. I would like to know the mayor and council’s position on actually fixing the parking since we briefly spent a hundred million dollars for a new airport that includes no new gates and no new parking.
PO Box 190234
Mayor:The reason I was calling is because I just read the article about the determination for how to handle or what to do about the airport police when Mike Johnson retires. I have 33 1/2 years experience working with BPD and 4 years experience working with the airport police department on a part time basis. My suggestion is that it goes under the BPD as a separate division or section, perhaps a section of the bench or division of the entire department. The officers already there can remain to work there as Boise Police Officers. If they want to transfer from the airport into the patrol division to cover the rest of the town, they would be required to go through the FDO process.

They are already certified officers but they need to go through the FDO process and procedures for the BPD just as any officer coming to Boise would have to do. Also, if a BPD officer wants to transfer out to the airport, he would be able to do so. But I would suggest in the contract, he agree to a 2 or 3 year tour out there just as some of the specialized units in the police dept. are required to do because there is an extensive amount of specialized training for airport regulations, federal regulations handling out at the airport that a regular officer does not get involved in. I have promoted this idea for the last 4 years myself suggesting the officers try to do that. I’ve talked to Mike Johnson about that. It needs to be out from under the private mindset of the airport director and operating directly for the Mayor or for the Chief. We saw too much abuse by John Anderson favoring the businesses out there. So, feel free to give me a call. I’d like to discuss this with you or whoever is in the decision making process.
Towing: He sold a car to a friend of his son for parts. The car was not a running car so he didn’t think it necessary to transfer the title. The youth left the car on the street. It got cited and towed. Mr. Waddell was shown as the owner and was recently contacted by Action Collections for a towing and storage bill in excess of $1000.00. When he contacted the tow company they said tough. So did the collection agency. He stated he was never notified that the car had been towed but the collection agency said he should have received registered letters stating this fact and he will just have to pay up. The car wasn’t worth anything. He doesn’t believe this could happen.
According to the maintenance guy down there, he says they can’t because of the cabinets. We can’t wash any more dishes in these things they are so dang small. Please excuse my speech impediment. ACHD: This evening I left Asiagos on Main St after dinner, was walking to my car, and in front of the Blues Bouquet. In front of the Bouquet, I was not aware there was a hole where I believe a planter at one time covered it up. I noticed they were doing some construction at Franks Shoes, or where it used to be. But anyway, I’m a senior, 78 years old, and I found myself fallen down on the sidewalk. I could have really hurt myself but I think I’m ok. I’m calling you in the evening at 9:41. I went into the Bouquet and talked to one of the individuals there. I think his name was Dean. He said he would tell his manager. He didn’t know who was responsible. Then I asked him to put a plastic chair over the hole on the sidewalk. Again, I believe this was covered by a planter. Anyway, it’s very dangerous. I’m 78 and have a very difficult time getting up. I hurt my knee and my elbow but I’m sure nothing is broken. The purpose of the call is I don’t know who is responsible, whether it is a merchant or the City as it relates to that sidewalk. But if I fell, others could fall too. Thank you very much. If you need to contact me, you know how to do that. Thank you.
I have a complaint against the Boise City Prosecutor’s Office. It gets more ridiculous every day. I’m trying to be thrown in jail for parking a vehicle at my house. I’m just fed up. I had a violent crime committed against me three years ago. They refused to prosecute but they have time to make sure I do some jail time for a vehicle parked in front of my house. I’d like to speak to someone with a response to this. No one would respond two and a half years ago. I’d like to speak to someone who has control over this issue. It is just complete biased prosecution also. There is about 6 or 7 other problems just on my street and no one will do anything about it. They are not being prosecuted. Please return my phone call. Overland Trailer Park: There has got to be a better way Mr. Mayor to handle that problem with the poor people that live in that mobile home park on Overland. Shutting off their power this time of the year and so forth seems to me no short of being criminal. There has got to be some other way to force that property owner to make repairs even if the city has to go in and do it for him and then see that he pays the bill for doing it. Again that’s my opinion and I feel that it is very, very, wrong to make those people suffer because of that idiots inability to do what he needs to do. Thank you for listening, bye.
Overland Trailer Park Concern: Hi Mr. Mayor. I was just watching the news about that trailer park on Overland. I think that it is pretty vicious to freeze those people out because there is trash in their yard. The electrical system obviously isn’t a problem because the circuit breaker would pop if the system was overloaded. (Garbled)….This vicious angry woman, so she turned off all the power so the little kids would freeze, the food would go bad in the refrigerator and they don’t have any place to go. But it would get rid of the poor people though; we don’t like them around here. Bye.
I’m calling about a Boise City Fire Dept. pickup truck left out in front of my business for a week now, unlocked with equipment in it. So you can contact me at 377-8771 and I’ll have a police report on that for you. Thank you.
Graffiti: We called in some graffiti over a week ago now and its still at 28th and Hill Rd. On 28th St. on the NW side of the intersection, that reads, “My Stolen Pride”. It’s in red white and blue spray paint and stenciled. I think you can see it if you really look. We’d appreciate it being painted gray again. Thank you.
PDS: Hi, I just wanted to complain about a construction site that seems to be just bellowing dirt and dust in the air and with the smoke in the air it seems like we don’t need any more it’s at Overland just east of the Mtn. View High School. It’s just a big dirt lot and trucks just keep building up dust. Thanks.
Abandoned Vehicle: I still wonder about that Ford WindStar parked on 4075 Tattenham Way. It’s a Ford Windstar from Broadway Ford in Idaho Falls license plate # 8bf1098 been parked there for weeks, it’s a silver van tag number 90-3053817 its been parked there in front of that house for weeks and I’m wondering if its stolen. Why would they keep it parked on the street like that? Thank you.
Code Enforcement: I’m calling about noxious weeds in the City of Boise. I understand that the City of Boise does not have a noxious weeds enforcement policy or ah, yeah in there in their policy, ah code, their code. It’s not in their city code to enforce noxious weeds, it’s required to be done by the county agencies Bryan Wilbur is in charge of that Ada County Weed and Gopher and ah, Ada County is not in the business is not in the business of helping the City of Boise enforce on their noxious weeds. It is the job of the Boise enforcement officers who are in charge of enforcing things like state law that says that you know your noxious weeds are these 36 and keep them under control. You’re not going to pass the buck to Ada County and have them take care of your back yards I suppose. And there was one more thing I wanted to mention, about the enforcement, Nampa and Caldwell both have a city enforcement code where the code officers enforce on noxious weeds also. They are becoming much more aware of what those weeds are and those two cities are getting a handle on controlling their noxious weeds and I can’t believe that Boise can’t figure that out, they got to learn from a poe-dunk cow town that gets shot up all the time. Talk to you later, hope your having fun, and I really appreciate the code enforcement officers at least in Nampa city when it comes to enforcing on noxious weeds like puncture vines, and Canada Thistle, and Yellow Star thistle, and thrush skeleton weed that you have in your city on your city property so have fun and we’ll talk to you soon I’m sure. Bye.
Noxious Weeds: He is extremely frustrated with his next door neighbors at 2017 S. Penninger Dr. It is full of thistles and goat head thorns. He has called Ada County Noxious weeds repeatedly and has been told it would be taken care of a few weeks ago and he still waits. In the meantime he and his other neighbors try to keep their yards nice and eradicate the noxious weeds but can’t stay ahead of them. He needs help.
Mosquito Spraying: Hi, I am a concerned citizen of Boise Idaho. Recently moving here from the state of Ohio, I had more confidence in the wisdom of the people of Boise than to spray a dangerous chemical to kill the mosquito population around people and animals where it can be deadly. I surely hope that we the people of Idaho would learn from the mistakes of Louisiana and Florida before the environmental deterrent takes place from the long term exposure of this chemical. If you would look at the MSBS sheet of the particular chemical that is going to be sprayed you will see how dangerous it really is. I just wanted to express my concern, that’s all. Thank you, and have a great day.
Billboard Complaint: I’ve noticed that a big billboard went up on the connector. I had heard that they were revamping the sign code. I was thinking that if they revamp the sign code that this kind of stuff would not be allowed. As you come in on the connector into Boise you used to be able to have a beautiful view of the Capital dome. That billboard now totally infringes on that view. I’ve noticed it earlier in the summer and when I came down to the City Market this morning, the Farmers Market, and I noticed that it is now electric and so I wondered, I just thought it was a shame that this is kind of a gateway into the city and this big huge billboard is there. So I wondered how the sign code has changed and how that was allowed to go up. I noticed on the other side that the lottery billboard was there, and the lottery billboard used to be up against a building where it didn’t really infringe on anything from the other side and it was kind of nice you could always get your information, but it was up against that climbing business as you are headed west on the right side of the connector. So, anyway, my question was how that gets approved with the new sign code. I was under the impression that it was getting revamped. So, that just really shocked me that a billboard that high and electric would be allowed and in the place where it was allowed. If someone would get back to me I’m happy to follow up in any way, I’d appreciate it very much. Thank you.
It’s my understanding that if you call in that the city can do something about that overhang. It’s a stress point with her, she had a tree in the back yard that cracked and hit the house next door. I’m sure that any time a tree hits a building that creates a problem in peoples’ minds. The limb overhanging her house is a concern to. My name is Miles, my address 1306 N. 26th. My neighbor to the north side of me has chosen to put a sign up on his side of the fence that reflects only into my parking lot and his backyard. Walden Pond Subdivision
PDS: I’m calling about Rivendell subdivision which is in progress right now which lies geographically between Brook Hollow and present Walden Pond subdivision. This Rivendell will be Walden Pond size. The fifth phase of this construction process. I have a great concern about the plat and the arrangement of housing in this new Rivendale subdivision. The developer is Ron Blazer. We have had numerous go rounds with him in the city council and we’ve had litigation also. He has proposed a subdivision which Brook Hollow and Walden Pond have opposed his layout of this proposed subdivision. Right now he is scheduled to be building 75 single family dwellings. And that has been approved by compromise and mutual consent between Brook Hollow and Walden Pond. What he’s doing also is adding 5 new duplexes in the northwest subdivision. This was not a part of the agreement between Walden Pond, Blazer, and Brook Hollow the common agreement did not include these new duplexes. It’s also in direct opposition to what the Boise city council has approved. He is sneaking them in and Boise city council needs to know about this because it’s not legal and he’s not following the dictates or the instructions of the city council of what he can and can’t do on his property. So this is my major concern and it’s a concern of many, many others here in the Walden Pond subdivision because his traffic density is going to become horrendous the main route into Walden Pond 5 Rivendale will be Bronte Dr. and it will turn a residential street into a freeway. That is our major concern because of children on the street and pets and what have you. Anyway that’s all I have to say. This man, this Ron Blazer if flying in the face of city council directives and I think the council needs to know about that. Thank you for listening.
BPD: This is a neighborhood traffic concern. I do wish to remain anonymous on this call but I have contacted the area police department and the University of Boise parking enforcement regarding this matter. I reside at the apartments on campus just at the end of W. Boise Ave, the Village Apartments. Coming into the entrance of the apartment building on the right hand side, there is a sign posted up there that says no parking beyond this spot, and there are continuously three four cars at a time parked on this corner, which blocks the view of traffic coming down West Boise Ave. Towards the Vista, University exits. We have tried calling the Boise Police Dept; they have sent us over to BSU parking enforcement. BSU Parking has told us that this is not a BSU matter that it is a city matter because it is city property. We have gotten nothing but the runaround while continuously having these cars parked out there blocking our view of oncoming traffic coming down the street. I really think that something needs to be done. This is an extreme traffic hazard. I’ve almost gotten into an accident twice myself regarding this incident, and have actually had a friend of mine involved in a minor traffic accident while pulling out of here, because she could not see the oncoming traffic coming down West Boise Ave. toward University. Once again I would like to remain anonymous but I would like this issue looked into either by BSU parking enforcement or by the City Police Dept. Thank you very much and have a wonderful day.
BPD: Yes Mayor and city councilmen, very specifically Jim Tibbs and Vern Bisterfeldt. I have witnessed over the last three years as the City of Boise has taken over the enforcement of law at BSU football games. The parking on University Drive, North side especially, has been increasingly worse and they’ve been parking there for three days and four days, especially during the Idaho game. I don’t believe that it’s within the law to park there for two or three days. Then they turn around and they take our space, the little space we have, on University grounds, and I paid $450 for my R.V. space there and have since they raised it from $50 dollars to $450. I would like you to please enforce the law and maybe even look at how much of an emergency it would be like it was at the Idaho game when fire trucks and ambulances couldn’t get thru there very easily because of those vehicles parked on University Dr. Especially on the North side, where they infringe on my rights which we have paid for. Thank you very much Mayor and City Council members.
Wrecking Yard: My complaint is we are within city limits we have got some people that have moved in across the street from us. There are about a dozen cars, they don’t run half the time, they’ve got a bunch out front and a bunch out back. There are renting a place that belongs to the city. We were wondering who we could call to complain to. We are not able to have any wrecked or disabled cars. They’re supposed to be working on them and selling them or something. This is not a wrecking yard. We’ve had them out here before but then the state took them out. Then now the people have moved into the house, they have about 8 cars, there’s a moving van out in front of their house and we want it taken care of. They have to move. The house belongs to the city and we don’t know who to contact. If you could call us back or get a hold of somebody we’d like to get it taken care of right away. Thank you, bye, bye.

BFD Complaint: I’m calling about this practice that’s being exercised intermittingly by the BFD. Today is August 11th. They are doing this at the intersection of Broadway and Boise Avenue with this Fill the Boot thing. They are using their official capacity as Boise Fire Fighters to forward someone’s personal agenda to gather money for this charity. I’m not saying anything bad about this charity, that’s wonderful. But, to allow them to stand out in the middle of the streets to do this is a traffic hazard. If they want to do it off the side of the road, that would be fine but allowing them to get out in the middle of the street and do this intimidates people and it’s allowing them to further someone’s personal desires to back this one charity. If we let them do it why don’t we allow everyone to do it? It ought to be stopped. I guess that’s it. Thanks.
The Garage: I know about the situation with the Garage in the North End and I think it’s ridiculous that you shut them down after they had been there for 15 years because they weren’t up to code on the bathroom without giving them some notice or letting them fix the bathrooms first while they can still stay open. I think it’s really silly and they are a really cool place. The fact that they might have to shut down because of the red tape is ridiculous and I would think Boise is a better city than that. So I was just calling to give support to them and let you know I think it is ridiculous what’s going on and you need to help them out. Thanks.
Boise River: This is concern to a news story concerning a survey that the BPD is conducting about floating the river. I would like to be a participant in that survey. Since the alcohol ban, I do not float the river anymore. I’ve always enjoyed it and having a few beers and maintaining my decency and conducting myself as a civil person. Because alcohol is not allowed, I do not find the desire to go up on the river anymore. I think it excludes me from that survey and it’s prejudicial to do that. The survey should be placed online so all members of the city should be participants in that and not just the current alcohol free group that floats the river. I’ve always believed the alcohol ban is unwarranted and unfair because of a few people that cannot control their alcohol and potentially underage drinking alcohol where young people are drinking and getting out of control. I believe the police department is well armed with enough regulations and statutes to control the river, provided they want to, to control bad behavior without having a total alcohol ban. The alcohol isn’t the problem, it’s the behavior. I really wish the Mayor and City Council would reflect upon this and allow us decent law abiding citizens to have a few beers on the river as long as our behavior is correct. There are enough laws, rules, and regulations and maybe you up some more. But deal with the behavior and not just the consumption of alcohol. Again, I do want to participate in that survey if it’s possible. I think you guys are getting a biased and slanted view by asking the people that only come off the river. You have excluded a lot of people and you may not be aware of that.
This is Monday, the 14th, and I have seven cans of trash out for pick up and it’s a neighborhood eyesore. I’m surprised the neighborhood is not complaining. My trash pick-up is on Collister. I don’t know what else to do. I have called and called these people and they continue to say they don’t know what the problem is. They say it must be their driver. Nothing is ever done about it. I have lived here for 15 years and have had my trash picked up every Friday. They have checked and my trash bill is paid. I expect to not pay for this trash pick up because they haven’t picked it up. My trash containers are the proper size and the proper weight. I am at wits at what to do. I would appreciate it if you could help me very much. There’s no way that I have to take my own trash to the dump and I shouldn’t have to because I’m paying my trash bill. If I sound frustrated I am very frustrated. Now you want to get rid of it because they don’t have a liquor license? Who has the most money that is putting it into your pocket that wants to get rid of it? Is it the bars downtown because they are losing money? Or is it the City of Boise?
We call ourselves, “I Waste Not.” I wanted to follow up with the Mayor and let him know that our group has observed some peculiar policies and maybe it’s not a matter of policy but a matter of common sense. But we have noticed that when the building inspectors go in and inspect various buildings that they have a tendency to leave the engines running in their trucks. Somehow it doesn’t seem logical in this day and age that you would do something like that. Maybe they should be reminded that it’s probably a good idea to not waste the resources we do have. Again, our organization is called, “I Waste Not.” I hope that will be helpful as you try to solve our growing problems in the city. Thank you.
Abandoned Car: I’m calling to complain about an abandoned call at the corner of Hillcrest and Greenbriar. It’s been there for several weeks, or at least it feels like several weeks. I’ve called the BPD and filed an abandoned car report and the young lady said she’d put it on the list. That was a week ago. I’ve also talked to two of my neighbors who have also called and are getting no response. The car has a flat tire, the bumpers are ripped off, and it’s obviously abandoned. It has a 2C license plate. The number is 2CV6656. It’s a Toyota Camry. It’s parked in front of an elderly widow’s home which makes her very nervous. Across the street is a 97 year old lady who also is getting nervous because the vehicle is abandoned and it’s beginning to look like we live in a neighborhood where people don’t care and that’s not true. I don’t know what to do with the BPD because obviously several neighbors have called multiple times and we can’t get someone to come up and look at it. Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Compliment: I would like to leave a message regarding very high compliment for Aimee Hughes. She works for the city and is in charge of overseeing a construction sight. She has responded to a request for a very difficult situation across the street from us on Holden Lane and she jumped right on it and took care of the situation. It’s being corrected now. It was a very dirty sight with trash blowing all over the neighborhood. We would like to very strongly compliment her on doing such a good job and doing it immediately. Thank you very much.
Billboard Complaint: My comment is that I was quite unhappy to see the large color changing billboards downtown and then another one on the interstate. One wonders what the limit is and what will be allowed in Boise for this type of advertising. It’s not very good for the skyline, it’s very busy, and I wonder how many people really appreciate this type of messaging all the time. I’m not a fan of billboards whatsoever and wonder what city department or what the city is doing to monitor and limit this type of advertisement. Thank you.
Owyhee Construction Complaint: I’m calling to complain about the street on Cassia that supposed to be in construction for 8 days originally in June and then in July they said to the end of July and now it’s changed to the end of August. I’ve seen so few of Owyhee Construction guys out there. I’m very disappointed. It’s about time they got these people to start working and finish our road now. I don’t know if anyone else has complained but I am big time. In July I think they maybe worked one day, two days maybe? I know it was hot but this has just gotten stupid now. Thank you.
PDS: I’m calling about Rivendell. That’s a WP5. The developer in this area was supposed to be limited to 75 single home dwellings. That’s along I-84 and now he is proposing to put in 5 duplexes in the northwest corner of the subdivision. It was my understanding that this had already been discussed and the single family homes had been approved but not the duplexes. I would like to know how these regulations are enforced and who would I go to, to see why they haven’t been enforced or how they could be enforced. I’d appreciate a call back. My husband is in agreement with my telephone call. Thank you very much for a returned call.
BPD: Sam called with a concern for his apartment complex off of Vista. It’s called Oak Park Village. It’s a fairly quiet complex with small children and elderly folks. A man is in the complex and running amuck. Sam stated he has tried to entice children and has assaulted old ladies. He is very worried about everyone’s safety. He also stated that the Boise City Police have been out there before to tazer the guy but they are not doing anything about it further than that to protect everyone’s safety. He wants a response back as soon as possible.
CE: I’m calling with a concern for a home on 711 W. Gettysburg. It has been vacant for a long time and they have weeds 4ft tall and very dry. We have called the city and several numbers to try and get this yard taken care of. They said this was urgent and they’d take care of it. It’s been 6 weeks since we’ve called and it’s been the same. I was wondering what we do as a neighborhood to get this taken care of. It’s an extreme fire hazard. If someone just flicks a cigarette, it could burn the whole block. Please try to help us. Thank you.
Library: I’m calling about this Rivers, Mark Rivers. The development he wants to do, I am totally against it. Everyone I’ve talked to is against it. It has to be the taxpayers coming up with this money and we cannot afford it anymore. I hope Bieter will understand where we are coming from. This is my home and I have never been so disgusted with anyone in my life than this Mark Rivers. Do not let him do this to the people of Boise. Thank you.
PDS: This is in regards to the Rivendell subdivision along I-84. It appears that they are trying to build some duplexes on the NW corner of that subdivision. I don’t believe that these duplexes were part of the plan that was agreed to. Someone probably needs to check in to this and see what the status for that is. I’d appreciate it if you’d look into it. Disruption of Traffic: I’m a resident in Boise. I’m calling to register a complaint about the disruption of traffic caused by Dick Cheney’s visit down at the Grove. It just took my wife a half an hour to get out of town. I’m calling to let you know that all the fire dept and police people that are out in front should be out working instead of blocking traffic. Thank goodness she didn’t need to go the hospital. That’s my comment for today. They can do a better job in the future or not invite him back. That’s my need. Bye.
My neighbors have helped mow. The weeds are now in the front yard 3-4 ft tall and we are very concerned. No one seems to want to do anything about this. I believe it was sold to someone the first of June and still nothing done. It’s been over 2 months. Thank you.
Climate Protection Agreement: My comment is that I’m thoroughly confused with the fact that I have no recollection of any legislation or any vote of the people of the city of Boise being taken to allow the Mayor to sign us on to some idiotic clean air program or global warming program. What gives him the authority to do such? Of course it might be the bone headed City Council and I don’t have any recollection of that being published in the paper either. I think the Mayor has totally overstepped his bounds in this matter. Thank you.
ACHD: I noticed you signed the global warming pact. I’ve also noticed that we’ve had really bad air for a couple of days and there have been some bad air warnings. I’ve also noticed that our friends at ACHD are still making all kinds of dust with their chip seal programs. I’m wondering if they should be leading by example and not making so much dust when we have so much concern for bad air in our city. Thank you so much and have a good night folks.
10 Commandments: I’m calling concerning the Ten Commandments monument issue and an idea for hopefully resolving the myth without a vote. I would like to talk to someone about some ideas for moving the monument and trying to satisfy all the people involved. Instead of taking up a lot of tape, if I could get someone to call me at the 462 number, I’ll run it by them and give you an idea. An idea for trying to get this monument issue compromised that would hopefully satisfy all parties. So I’d like to hear from someone and thanks a lot for having the hotline, great idea. VRT: I’m calling because I’m sure you’re all aware of the poor bus service in Boise. I’m a 73 year old woman who does not have a car. Recently my car broke down and I don’t have the money to get it fixed so I thought I’d ride the bus, no problem. But, it is. It doesn’t get me to Winco but I might be able to walk, I don’t know. It would be quite a ways. On Saturday, there is no bus that takes me downtown. I’m broke. I take care of a family and their children. It’s perfect for me because it supplements my social security. I don’t make very much but it’s enough to help out. But, I can’t get there on the bus and it’s up on Table Rock so I’m out of luck. I’m not going to have a job anymore. Today when I heard you say that people should take the bus, yeah they should, but the bus doesn’t get to there. That’s all I wanted to say. Bye.
She lives on a lane with about 6 houses that have shallow draft wells which provide all their water. They are right off Maple Grove. There is a United Water Line on Maple Grove, however none of the well houses on Shellie have city water. Their wells are going dry due to the development that is occurring and the storm drains on Cloverdale which funnel the water away. She would like to drill her well a bit deeper but has been denied. She has contacted United Water three times with the following quotes to hook up. $30,000, $12,000 and $20,000.
She would like to speak to someone who has some expertise in this.
PDS: I’m calling to express my concerns regarding the development of the Rivendell subdivision along I-84 and Cloverdale. This is to have been a development of 75 single family dwellings. It took five years to get this compromised and now I understand the developer is trying to build 5 duplexes in the NW corner of this subdivision. The duplexes are not acceptable and that is not what was agreed to. This developer continues to try to do his own thing. Again, this is not acceptable and not what was agreed to. We live close to this corner and have lived here for 12 or 13 years. This definitely affects the market value of our property. Again, I ask you do not permit these duplexes to be built. It’s to be single family dwellings in this subdivision. We have been impacted enough by this subdivision that is going in here. Thank you for listening to my concerns and I hope you will not permit this to happen.
Consumer Protection: I’m not sure who I need to be contacting. I was really looking for an insurance commission or some sort of a fraud protection from insurance. What happened was that I went to go get homeowners insurance yesterday and I found out that my previous homeowners insurance has filed a fraudulent claim. They say that I had a fire and they are refusing to take that off my record even though I never had a fire. I’ve never filed a claim with them. They won’t take it off my record. There must be some place I can go to get this resolved. I’ve been on the phone for two days and I can’t get any help. I think that’s all the information I can give you. West Nile: I’m calling because there seems to be no one else to talk to about the mosquito abatement program. The commissioners are of course unavailable. I know you don’t have the responsibility for this program but I was hoping you could use your influence to help them decide against this plan. This is such a disaster for this area. The side effects from this spray will be 1,000X whatever chances we would take from the mosquitoes. Please, is there any possibility that you can help that you could talk to him, that you could somehow voice the outrage of the people to these people it would be so much appreciated. The downhill side is going to affect all outdoor life for a long time to come. Please, if you can Mayor Bieter, influence them to stop this program.
