Sometimes we forget why it is so wonderful to live in Boise. This shot made 20 minutes ago as the sun set, shining its light through the color spectrum caused by virga (rain that evaporates before it hits the ground) serve as a reminder. Photo copyright DAVID R. FRAZIER Photolibrary, Inc.

I was just out taking pictures of the clouds but couldn’t see the rainbow! Great shot, looks like something you’d see at the top of the Sistine Chapel.

I heard that virga was also called “Mormon rain” since it is dry. Has anyone ever heard this folk description before?
Beautiful photo. That rainbow lasted for a long time.

Have the fires begun with all that wondeful smoke?

I bet they got the name Viagra from Virga. That rainbow lasted more than an hour!

I saw a different natural phenomena around 4:00 am about a month ago. They are called noctilucent clouds. They were so bright. I only wish I had my camera to do a timed exposure.
I was surprised the local weather/news people didn’t report it, then I realized what sane person is up at that time of day.
