Special Recognition: I just wanted to ask if you give any kind of awards for saving someone’s
life because I know a little girl who saved her sister’s life yesterday when she fell into the canal.
Her sister is 8 years old and couldn’t swim so her 12 year old sister jumped in and got her to a
rock, then she got out of the canal which was really running high, and she pulled her out. I think
it was very heroic and she deserves to have some kind of award or something; some kind of
notice that she did a great job. Her name is Brianna Maus and you can reach her through me,
so please call me back and let me know. I would like her to get some kind of recognition for
this. Thank you.

Allied Waste: I would like to register a complaint with the trash pick-up. This is the 8th week
this year that I have not had the trash picked up on the Friday that’s the day I’m supposed to
have it picked up. I call Allied Waste and I get either people that are frustratingly incompetent,
or like today they say they can’t take my call, leave a message and they will call me back I don’t
know when. I would like to know how to get the trash picked up on the day that it’s supposed to,
and I have not had good luck with Allied Waste in getting that taken care of. Thank you.

Bike Safety: Good morning Mr. Mayor and City Council. Do not record my phone number or
name as I do not want it released to the public. I’m calling regarding the draft recommendations
for bicycle safety in the City of Boise. I’m wondering if we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel
here, first of all. There may very well be some excellent information available in other cities that
we can look into. The second thing is I noticed that none of the recommendations speak to the
bicyclists wearing high-visibility clothing. Maybe I overlooked it; perhaps it is in there, but I didn’t
see it. I think that if a bicyclist were to wear a very brightly colored shirt, such as is required by
a construction worker, that I believe that there would be a reduction in the number of accidents
happening involving bicyclists. There’s also something in there, a law about harassing
bicyclists; I would think that existing laws already cover that sort of thing. I have also witnessed
a bicyclist harassing a car by banging on the windows and that sort of thing. So make sure that
you’re recommendation and eventual laws also address aggressive cyclists; some of these folks
get a little out of hand. This business of blocking intersections to bring about awareness, all of
that sort of thing, doesn’t happen here in Boise very much because Boise people would not
tolerate it; however, if we had the laws in place in advance of that sort of thing starting to
happen, it would be useful in preventing that kind conflict. Have a good day.

Graffiti: I have a concrete brick wall in front of my property. I just had to go clean up graffiti and
found that the Boise Police Department is also now tagging my wall. I want to know, and I
would really like a call, why the Boise City Police Department, when they have never called me
and said they have never caught anybody that does this after as many times as I have cleaned
it up, that they’re now using bright red paint on my wall. I would like an answer for this because
if it’s legal for them to do it, then it should be legal for everybody else or they just figure that
because they don’t catch anybody, who cares? I am very angry. Thank you.

Graffiti: We want to thank you for your quick response to our graffiti call. Officer Jim Cling
came out; he was polite, helpful, and said they were going to obliterate it. We think it’s a great
program and he gave us great response within a couple of hours of reporting it. Thank you so
much for the program.

Curb It: My husband was Warren McCain. The reason I’m calling is because I got the notice on
the new garbage pick-up thing, and of course I was concerned because I’m old and I live at the
top of a hill and the driveway goes straight down. Anyway, I’ve called several times and each
time I get the kindest, most understanding people. I called again twice today because I just got
the guide book thing out and the people couldn’t be nicer. I just want the Mayor to know how
appreciative I am of that. I guess that’s all, but thanks to everybody.

Center on the Grove: I’m calling about the Honey Locust trees in The Grove. There are three
of them that are quite obviously dead. I volunteer here at the visitor’s center and I’ve had a
couple of visitors ask me about them. I just thought that it’s such a “meeting and greeting”
place, so visible and welcoming to everyone who comes to Boise, not just visitors, and the trees
just kind of put a damper on everything. I wondered if there were plans to replace them, take
them out, just what might be going on with them. Thank you.
Action Taken: left msj CCDC is going to replace them

Curb It: The new Curb It trash cans are way too big for me to handle. It seems to be a problem
to get a smaller one and their charging more money now for this mandatory service. I was told I
would need a large trash can which is not the case and again I live alone and I’m not able to get
this trash can to the curb. I would appreciate your assistance in getting this resolved as soon as
possible. I’m paying for a service I can’t use. Thank you very much.

Amber Alert: I’m calling concerning the Amber Alert. It’s obviously an obstruction of custody
fight and I don’t think that should be…maybe it’s in the Amber Alert rules that they can do that,
but I don’t think it’s appropriate. I’m complaining to the Mayor and the City Council, and also I’m
going to call the police chief and tell him that I think this is a misuse of the Amber Alert, the Luca
Principalli case. Thanks.

  1. Damn, I wish he (Pro-Life)didn’t grow such great strawberries.

    To ProLife:
While to an observer cases deemed as Amber Alerts may appear to be child custody and/or abduction battles, there are many instances that has not been divulged to the media in which the kidnapping non-custodial parent may be extremely threatening to a child and the child in danger. For the Amber Alert to have been issued in the Luca Principali case says that there is much more behind the case than the investigative team reported to the media.

  3. Choose me, Brianna! Choose me!!!

(Brianna – the Girl Hero who gets to invite 3 friends for pizza…)

  4. Guardian: Good move on the pizza for the young heroine. I hope the city follows through and gives her a proper public award or honor, also.

Brianna, if you’re reading this, the dictionary description fits you exactly: heroine (noun).
    1. a girl or woman admired for her bravery, great deeds, or noble qualities; female hero.
