While the legacy media pundits are speculating about what will happen in the next race for Guv if Luna runs, if Butch calls it quits, the GUARDIAN is hearing rumblings state Senator Elliot Werk may seek a Boise City Council seat.
Here is how one tipster phrased it: “The only name I’ve heard is Elliot Werk. Several people I know have told me that he is considering running because of his aspirations to run for Mayor at some point in the future and plus he is pretty ineffective in the state legislature (consider the fact that he lost the minority leadership race as the straw that broke the camel’s back). You may wanna give him a call and ask him about his plans.”
Well, we did as suggested and here’s what the Dem senator told us: “NO COMMENT.”
So far, the council and mayor seats are uncontested. With the decision last week of Alan Shealy to bow out, Lauren McLean has switched over to that 4 year post, leaving Ben Quintana to go after the remaining 2 years of her seat which was vacated by Vern Bisterfeldt who dumped the city in favor of a county post.
In this game of musical chairs, it appears there just isn’t room for another Dem in the “non-partisan” municipal races…unless another incumbent quits.

What are the job/time requirements? That may be the problem with somebody new stepping into the political arena. It may be too hard to hold down a regular job while doing this on the side.

Werk hasn’t worked as a senator…. who thinks he would work in any other elected position. Werk doesn’t work anywhere.

The only qualifications for public elected office are that you be 18 years of age, be an elector in good standing (Not a Felon)and get yourself elected.
There-in is the problem. Running a public corporation like the City of Boise deserves a “TRAINED PROFESSIONAL” to run our city in a professional manner. Corporations do not hold elections for their CEO’s they hire the best talent they can find and if he doesn’t do the job he gets fired.
I am all for elected city councilors and a elected mayor but a trained City Manager is what is needed and the sooner the better. Making the change to City Manager Govt. would help prevent a lot of the problems we face today.

Fantastic! Now we may have the choice of a buffoon for mayor, or a nice enough guy who is completely unqualified to run the city! I pray that a ‘common sense’ candidate will emerge!!
