Peddle Pushers To Protest Prohibitions

The group calling itself the “Citizens for an Open Greenbelt” (COG) is planning a “demonstration of outrage” at Garden City along the greenbelt at the northwest corner of Glenwood and Riverside Drive (near the Moxie Java) on August 13.
Organizer Gary Segers said the plan is to to tell Garden City “enough is enough – open the bike path now to bike riders as it was intended since 1980.”
COG has been fighting Garden City since 2007 to allow bike riding along the bike path in Riverside Village. COG filed a lawsuit against Garden City in 2010 and a court date has been set for February 21, 2012.
He encourages interested citizens to bring their bikes to show Garden City officials they should not prohibit access to bikes on the greenbelt.

The GC PD might not resort to a massively violent response, like a nearby PD probably would.

Spent too much time behind a pack of bikes blocking most of the lane in spite of a special bike lane just for them. I wondered if I support a bike tax/fee. I noticed several bikes worth more than my car. Many with people who are too fat to ride for a living. (tire technology is amazing) Could this be the future for Boise? Team Dave can raise extra money for the new train he wants. Perhaps even build the train on the greenbelt?

Why does it take two years to get to court? What was the original explanation for GC to close the path to bikes? Did they also close the path to skaters? Just curious…
