State Denies Request, Keeps Settlement Secret

The State of Idaho has refused to honor a request from the Boise GUARDIAN for the settlement agreement between former Transportation Director Pam Lowe and the State of Idaho. Lowe was terminated and filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court.

The case was settled out of court and both sides have declined to reveal how much tax money Idaho”s citizens were forced to pay.

We find the text of the letter refusing to provide the information interesting as it claims the case is still pending in some fashion. Perhaps that leaves the door open to informing citizens about the settlement?

Since this settlement has or will be paid by the people of Idaho or the insurance policy that is paid for by the people of Idaho, the amount should be a matter of public record. Where is the Statesmans’ and the Press/Tribunes’ f.o.i. requests? I can’t believe Popkey hasn’t pounced on this yet. I look forward to the details being made available soon and hopefully this will be what finally gets Otter beat. Astute politicians that are interested in running for governor should be seizing this opportunity.

  2. Hey Dave,
Try filing a request for their check register for a specific perion of time involved with the settlement.

  3. In defense of Dan Popkey.. see his responses to the third comment.

EDITOR NOTE–Dan is correct. The GUARDIAN has also filed with the Controller. Also for the record, there is NO record of the agreement in the federal court file which to the best of our knowledge is not sealed.
