Ada County Commish Jim Tibbs underwent triple bypass heart surgery at a Boise hospital Friday morning after complaining of indigestion earlier in the week during a routine medical exam.
Commish Chair Dave Case told the GUARDIAN Tibbs is “doing fine, but he will be out of the office for a few weeks.”
Former Commishes Vern Bisterfeldt and Vern Emery also had heart problems–we hope this isn’t a sign the disease is part of the job. Bisterfeldt’s condition was so severe, he resigned the office..twice. The first time his colleagues named the law enforcement building (Sheriff’s Office) after him.
Case said there were no plans to name any buildings after Tibbs since his prognosis was so good, according to doctors.

Clearly this is handled on a case by case basis
I wish the Commissioner a speedly and full recovery

Jim was lucky he went to a doctor and they caught it early enough he didn’t have the “BIG ONE” that takes a lot of folks out permanently.
He always looked healthy and fit and appeared to watch his diet. Just goes to show you that the meter is ticking on all of us.

I can speak personally for Mr. Tibbs’ healthy lifestyle, since he’s my neighbor.
– He runs – often! And usually when he’s the only guy awake, besides the dairymen.
– He swims – often!
– He skis – often! But not this time of year. I believe he serves on the Bogus Basin Board of Directors.
(I can’t speak for his food choices. Maybe he chomps on red meat and German chocolate cake after he goes running, rather than sticking with Michelle Obama -approved foods.)
I expect he’ll bounce right back. Hopefully a citizen will show up at a meeting and ask to see his scar.
