Where’s the NEWS?

We offer an apology for not offering much to our loyal and faithful readers, but there hasn’t been much in the way of legitimate news upon which to comment. We feel obligated to let you know the GUARDIAN is still around, but with little to offer.

–We really don’t want to discuss who patted whom of kissed more than desired. Those stories are about all that dominates the national news these days. We look for lawyers to be the prime beneficiaries of past indiscretions.

–There is only so much one can tolerate in the way of prognostications on who will win the Republican primary elections next May.

–Winter is coming, but all the celebrity meteorologist have different opinions on the forecast intensity. They do well reminding us of last year, however.

–Thanksgiving points up the opportunity to condemn Pilgrims for mistreating Natives. Not to be confused with the fallacy of Columbus Day.

–NFL players taking a knee are either patriots or offensive to brave veterans.

–Presidential tweets about butt patting, shoplifting college basketball players and their fathers do little for the national dignity.

Those are just a few of the reasons we haven’t offered many topics for discussion. Feel free to give us a guest opinion, offer up news tips, or
other topics for discussion.

  1. Id like information about the CCDC? Used to be the Boise Redevelopment Agency. Now it’s a corporation with lots of real estate! Being controlled by Boise city elected officials. Was that the original idea? Are property taxpayers subsidizing their existence?

EDITOR NOTE–Really a lengthy one to explain, but YES, property taxes are diverted AWAY from schools, ACHD, city and county to benefit the urban renewal district. CCDC is dominated by Boise officials and those favorable to Team Dave. It is a virtual “pot of gold” and horribly misused based on the original intent. Often used to get around idaho Constitution and ignore voters.

Check out the new subdivision of 18 homes in the Vista neighborhood and located in the airport 2020 impact area. Unbelievable for the city to approve housing when the airport and Gowen Field plan to increase air traffic and air noise/pollution in the same vicinity.

EDITOR NOTE–Assume you are talking about the development off Ormond. How about writing up something for us?

  3. But, but, parking rates Downtown are going up, and the hours and day of enforcement are increasing. That’s news!!

Team Dave and his badged minions are collecting more revenue for his Folly, the Trolly.

EDITOR NOTE–Western Guy, we pretty much covered the parking issue with our advocacy of staying out of downtown. Little did we know Team Dave was on board with making downtown less attractive! https://boiseguardian.com/2017/11/13/solution-for-downtown-parking-rate-hike/

    HONEST LAWYER JOKE

An honest lawyer would never take a lawmaker position because it would be a blatant conflict of interest to create confusing laws & regulations that benefits them financially…
Over 75% of today’s lawmakers are lawyers ,,jokes on us.

I just got my property tax bill for Ada County. It went up another 10%. Anybody else see an increase like that? Of course, mine has gone up every year so I shouldn’t be surprised.

  6. Ethel, what the heck is this?

Medical liens would be a deep topic, and a sickening, revealing issue.

Editor, you mention Thanksgiving, and it also gives us the opportunity to reflect on all that is good.

    – We live in a beautiful and great state with little violent crime, a balanced budget, “manageable” taxes, and a nice quality of life.
    – Our national economy is on the uptick, one record stock market day after another – if you have a 401k/403b, then you have been making money since the election last November.

On Thursday, my family will have food on the table, in abundance and we will rejoice in thanks for our many blessings.

Life is good, and that is not news, if most of us would recognize it.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

    EDITOR NOTE–Nicely said.

  9. May be trivial but I wish there was some looking into the composting bin fiasco. In my neighborhood sacks of leaves have been sitting out two weeks come Turkey Day. They are getting pretty soggy and expect many will rip open spilling the contents in the gutters when they do get picked up. Calling Republic Services the official stance for the delay is all the leaves fell at once this year. Lame!

Also, the rule requiring that excess composting items must be placed in paper bags as opposed to small trash cans is ridiculous. If excess composting items are placed in small trash cans and set out with the required overflow stickers the contents end up in the landfill. Why? According to city hall the sack rule is because they fear non-compost items would end up in the trashcans. When pointing out said items could as easily be placed in a sack there was silence. Lame!

Oh, I am still waiting for my smaller trash bin that I requested during the order phase several months back. I still have my super large one but have verified I am being charged for the smaller size I requested. According to Ms. Chertudi (sp) the grand designer of the program it is the truck drivers who are the check and balance on ensuring houses have the correct size of bins. Yea, right! Suspect I will have the larger bin and be paying less for quite some time. Sure I could call and fess up but I would rather play the game and see just how long it will be. Ms. Chertudi (sp) ensures me I won’t be ordered to pay back charges.

Speaking of charges. Does anyone else think it strange why your trash collection charges are so vague and lack detailed information? The reason – the “system” won’t allow it”. Lame!

My biggest sore point on this entire fiasco is that I am sure Ms. Chertudi (sp) and others associated have all been given high fives and slaps on the back on what a great job they did in rolling out the program. I doubt if any of the mistakes will be brought up in any performance evals and raises will be awarded as customary. Yea, much has diverted from the landfill but at what cost?

Me thinks the mayor and his people need to focus more on the day-to-day running of the city and less on his train fantasy and baseball stadium.

Well, that turned out to be a lengthy bit. Guess it can be some filler till some real news turns up.

EDITOR NOTE–As a special Thanksgiving treat, the GUARDIAN will take care of your concerns. If you are happy, please let us know the results.

  10. J. Fisher – between perpetual school bonds, the CCDC/GBAD pot of gold for developers and a mayor focused on the sexy stuff instead of running the city efficiently what do you expect.

  11. I’m just not understanding why we need another baseball field for BSU. Between all of the baseball fields it just seems that BSU and others could work out a schedule that would work for every one.

    I guess not….

  12. RE: Topics of Conversation

These are 2 huge issues concerning everyone right now but you probably don’t want to go there. Statesman is doing extremely poor job on both subjects to date.

~ EARLY NEW YEARS RESOLUTION ~

We Americans have much to be thankful for..
Our nation’s Founders provided us with the rights, freedoms & authority to govern ourselves & prevent the political prostitutes we live under today.
A better quality of life free of being over-taxed & molested by our public employees is well within our immediate grasp..
Fulfilling our civic obligation as oath enforcers to hold corrupt officials accountable for violating their oath employment contracts would be a meaningful show of thanks to our Founders & veterans..
Public records provide us the evidence necessary to promptly fire the rascals,, beats whining & would let them know that the free- ride is over..

  14. Still lots of news happening.
Problem is it’s just more of the same.

Guardian skipped over discussing the resolution of the Bergdahl case.
As time has shown, it turned out differently that predicted by the Guardian:
“When all is said and done in the Bowe Bergdahl case the GUARDIAN predicts there will be either some sort of secret agreement to ###dismiss charges## or a simple reduction in rank and a ###“general discharge”### from the Army.”1/27/15 [hashtags added]

EDITOR NOTE–There was indeed an agreement rather than a trial, he was reduced in rank and discharged. We admit the severity was a dishonorable discharge. We didn’t factor in the Presidential preference to shoot him.

  15. It’s funny how the downtown stadium talk has largely been silent, at least from the corporate media side of things – ever since Betsy Russell’s alarm over GBAD’s potential violation of the Open Meeting Law. Sounds like the crooks got their hands caught in the cookie jar!

Does CCDC have 3 seats up for grabs in December?

EDITOR NOTE–See the post your comment has prompted.

“Elections are in December” according to recording of last meeting. Perhaps that means letting the Mayor know if you are interested in being considered.

EDITOR NOTE–Not sure your reference here. We have a consolidated election law in Idaho which offers a chance to vote on everything from bonds, primary candidates, and a general election. March, May, August, and November.

  18. Boise trash

According to news reports, the City of Boise sent their own crews to collect leaves that Republic (or whatever the firm is called this year) wasn’t able to collect.

But will the City charge Republic for this extra work incurred? Why not? The contract with Republic probably has a very nice hidden clause that refers to ‘unusual occurrence’ or something like that.

When will Ms Chertudi (sp) admit these multiple containers are an eyesore and get Code Enforcement to sent notes to the losers (high and medium and low-end houses) who refuse to hide their cans?

    Lame

The website has recordings of past meetings. “elections in December” probably means in-house board elections. Probably meant to say ‘approvals’ rather than elections? At any rate, anyone interested in being considered should certainly let the mayor’s office know.
