CCDC Pulls Out Of Library Project

Thanks to the Idaho Legislature and perhaps the Working Together group, financial support for the proposed $85 to $120 million Boise library project is waning.

Monday the Capital City Development Corp. (CCDC) board voted unanimously to withdraw $2.6 million earmarked for the project.

The legislature passed a law requiring a citizen vote for major projects using urban renewal or any source of public financing and the grassroots group gathered more than 7,000 petition signatures demanding a vote.

Margaret Carmel at the IDAHOPRESSposted a detailed account of the meeting as did Don Day at BOISEDEV

Issues such as this should require a vote. The people of Boise should be smart enough to vote “YES” and pass this one.

  2. My question is in regards to the architect hired for the project. Has he been put on hold, or is the mayor still allowing him to design and bill for a project that has an uncertain future.
If he has been put in hold, how much are tax-payers going to be out if the contract has to be canceled?

EDITOR NOTE–When we viewed the contract, it appeared to have been written by Safdie FOR Safdie. There was no “escape clause” for the city. We fear as much as $11 million could be spent for nothing.

If Andrew Bick is correct, whomever signed the contract for the City of Boise should be fired immediately.

No escape clause for an $11 million contract? Does anyone have a copy of that contract?

EDITOR NOTE–Check this GUARDIAN link https://boiseguardian.com/2019/01/10/more-library-concerns/ which has a link within the story to BoiseDev and even more details.

  4. We don’t need a crystal palace library. If the current structure isn’t adequate, then add on. Someone is getting a builder bonus here. Why move the log cabin. What happened to all the historical preservers? Did they repress their status just to genuflect to their Dem/Liberal mayor?
