Gov’t Rules Defy Logic And Reason

In quiet defiance of Gov. Brad Little the GUARDIAN joined scores of fellow citizens and openly defied the “stay at home rule” this past Sunday.

We packed a picnic and headed for Lucky Peak. No surprise when we hit traffic with cars parked along both sides of Highway 21 at Discovery Park. Folks ignored the barricades to walk their dogs, sun bathe, and picnic.

The road across the dam and the boat ramps were also closed. More parked cars. The dirt roads near Hilltop were blocked. More parked cars. The entrance to the Idaho Fish and Game wildlife management area was closed. More parked cars.

We crossed the high bridge at Mores Creek and stopped at Spring Shores. Gates open and boat ramps busy. More parked vehicles–BIG pickups with boat trailers.

Onward toward Arrowrock Dam at a wide spot opposite a trailhead more parked cars. At Jack’s Creek campground, barricades and more parked cars. We did an end run of a barricade and ate lunch under a new covered picnic table.

Last week we noticed Idaho Power has closed access to the Snake River at Swan Falls and all the other campgrounds and boat ramps including C.J. Strike.

On Broadway near Federal Way a lighted Idaho Transportation Dept. reader sign admonishes us to “STAY IN.”

This got us to thinking. Why are people protesting in front of Little’s office about the closure. It means nothing. If you want to go fishing, it can be done. Hiking and birdwatching, no problem. People appeared to keep their “social distances” and maintained their sanity.

In summary, it looks like Gov. Little’s transportation folks are out of step with the Spring Shores Park Dept. folks. Idaho Power is doing nothing more than punishing fishermen, and the conservatives are flapping their right wings at a problem they could just as easily ignore.

Wash your hands, don’t cough on people, keep your distance. Selling gas for $1.69 a gallon and telling folks not to drive is liking putting marshmallows in front of a six-year-old and telling them they can’t eat any.

Now that was amusing. So accept the rule and just disobey until they decide to ticket or jail?

    EDITOR NOTE–

It appears to be the case. There are not enough jails or police to handle the masses. Also,
there is no consistency to just what the rules may be.

If none of this makes any sense, Oregon and Washington make even less sense.
We rode out to Owyhee Reservoir yesterday, which is posted as “closed”, as are all state parks, but the road in runs through BLM, which is open and packed with campers and fishermen. The boat launches were closed except to people with cabins, of which there are only a handful. But there were at least 20-30 trucks and trailers parked at the lower launch. We didn’t see any boats, so I’m assuming they must’ve been recreating further up the reservoir, and the park rangers didn’t seem to be doing much more than just being visible.
It’s almost like both Oregon and Washington Governors, who seemed to have used the same “Pandemic Response for Dummies” manual, are doing exactly what frustrates their Eastern residents most – Governing the whole state based on the issues in their largest, most densely packed cities.

For an anecdotal non-scientific observation, I noticed an increase in auto traffic on local streets and highways starting around Tuesday, 4/14. This was also the day when the Trump stimulus bucks started showing up as electronic transfers in bank accounts. I am curious as to how much of this activity is due to Joe and Jane Sixpack suddenly feeling flush with cash. Tax refunds are also a possible contributing factor.

  4. This is what I like to see. People not afraid. People that want to be free. Socialism, the prelude to full Communism, needs to squash down courage and freedom. The protest at the capitol and the actions of people enjoying themselves are a breath of fresh air.

Meanwhile, I witness the revival of the NKVD on local social media forums like Nextdoor, where Stasi agents constantly post when they see a free person out of their home. Doesn’t matter that they are 100 yards from anyone, they are NOT home, waiting for the Establishment to give them their orders. A former Dem legislator is usually prodding the shaming rituals.

It’s really true that inside of these new Lefties that there is a totalitarian fighting to get out.

  5. “…Our findings suggest that there is somewhere between 50- and 80-fold more infections in our county than what’s known by the number of cases than are reported by our department of public health,” Dr. Eran Bendavid, the associate professor of medicine at Stanford University who led the study…”

If you do the math, the actual rate of death would be about equal to the seasonal flu.

Now we know why a Pandemic so terrifying as to need Martial Law, never had any actual science done to study it.

Doing the research would have ended the PANIC.

Nobody knows anyone who’s died, everyone knows several people who are now without a job in a Depression.

We need to think seriously about ending this CoronaHoax, and getting everyone back to work.

Government job. It’s call getting paid for not working. Now if they got a new rule that makes work even easier?

My father tells the WW-II stories of the people who refused to turn out lights at night, so the police broke the bulbs. However, there was good standing for that darkout rule. Problem we have with Covid is the facts are not clear. I don’t drink the far right kool-aid, but if the TSA starts probing each person entering WalMart I totally don’t give a crap if revolution starts.

BTW: As for Kool-Aid, Zerohedge is a joke publication owned by a Bulgarian parent company. A touch of leveraged truth in each story. Amazing how many right-nuts think it’s truth when it’s written by commie propaganda experts to sew seeds of distrust. So be careful, they just pumping you full of powdered eggs and other artificial paranoid prepper bullcrap.

A banned business (bar, restaurant, barber, gym, etc.) reopening would be a true show of defiance that requires huge cojones. A protest march is weak and meaningless.

Spending time in the sun, absorbing vitamin D, strengthens the immune system. The governor should be encouraging people to enjoy the great outdoors, not limiting access.

Methinks no elected official is willing to let anyone die “on my watch.” The guv is following suit of his 49 peers and certainly doesn’t want Idaho to be singled out for late-night TV ridicule.

  11. A lot to think about… But we in Idaho are coming from an experience of limited exposure and risk. I imagine those in NY, Italy, Spain, France and England may have a different perspective. I recently read that after the economy is opned back up, to expect a second outbreak. Those is in the big cities with large numbers of cases, have probably built up a herd immunity, those with little exposure like Idaho probablly have not. Without full blown testing to actually verify who has had it and has not, it is all guess work. In IFF’s recent call to action and protest, Wayne Hoffman stressed the importance of individual responsibility. Business owners can take precautions to protect their employees, their customers and their place of business. Then at the actual protest, no one that I saw practiced any of the protocol, proving the lack of oveeralll individual responsibility. This is a no win situation for political leaders. Either over react and reduce exposure and nunmber of cases, while tanking the economy. Or under react, risk a large number of cases, over burdening the health care system and in the end tank the economy anyway. Again, in idaho we have the luxury of low risk, low case numbers, low numbeer of deaths. Is it because we are”special” or due to the shut down, social distancing, or low population densities, or all of above? Whether we like it or not, each of us effect others. If you want to “rebel” go fishing, hiking or ust recreating, do it, I do, just take precations to protect you, your family and protect others from you. Each of us have different risk levels.

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.
    – Patrick Henry

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom – go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!
    – Samuel Adams

America and the world will survive, overcome, and thrive again. My largest concern is all the nut jobs who will get pushed over the edge they’ve been walking on for years…. when once again they are proven wrong.

And please shave that crap off your face, you look like a Taliban when in reality you’re living a good life in America. If your life was 1/3 as good as it is right now you’d still way ahead of a Taliban.

This crisis is an opportunity to serve your community and country, not tear it down, not hope for failure. The common enemy is a virus not your elder neighbor with a face mask on.

With a whopping 4 new confirmed cases yesterday it seems time for Idaho to experiment with opening parks, rivers and lakes, not to mention the small businesses that service these. I am entirely unsure if another 10 days is required. Idaho has been below R0 = 1 for weeks now. Being below 1 is the marker required, as Germany has noted. Germany is opening back up now. Changes will need to be made and monitoring will require people to self-report immediately if they show symptoms or have come into contact with a newly infected. It’s science. Wash your hands and wear a mask and get on with your lives.

  15. Many of the activities you mention are IDEAL for “social distancing.” Why make people hole up at home, if they can be out catching a few rays and doing something enjoyable, even though “socially distant”?

I’m a little more disturbed by the groups of a dozen or 20 people gathered in parks and such, and making no pretense at being six feet apart. (Probably the same “special” folks who don’t have to pick up their litter, clean up after their dogs, etc.)

If you’re wondering about tickets and arrests… I can say with relative confidence that unless you’re doing something really awful, you might get a ticket but you won’t get hauled into da joint. In normal times, there are typically 40 or 50 arrests listed on the Sheriff’s website on any particular day… lately it’s been more like six or maybe ten. (I’d guess they’re concerned about the spread of the illness between people in tight, jail-like quarters.)

EDITOR NOTE–From a practical standpoint, it would also be difficult to give someone a “speedy trial” since the courts are closed.

The problem is that ignoring these rules has led to a plateau instead of decline of this deadly virus. Average of 2,000 deaths in the USA every day for the last 2 weeks.

Now people that can’t see further than their nose are insisting on ending quarantine. Instead of 3 hot spots (WA, CA, NY), we’ll start with 3,000 hot spots in every nook and cranny of the country. Instead of slowing down doubling the infections every 14 days, we’ll go back to doubling every 5. There’s a reason why the second wave of the 1918 flu was twice as big – this next wave will be much more deadly once hospitals are overrun. NY was a picnic compared to the next 3 months. In 1919, a Philadelphia parade attended by 200k people ended in 5k flu deaths.

I’ve seen this in other countries as it happened. Most people here haven’t seen it and haven’t even read the history. Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat the worst parts. Think about talking with your buddies at the fishing dock when your parents or grandparents or friends are struggling to breath from the virus you spread. And when the deaths start up, you can’t slow it down because of the 3 week lag between infections and terminal.

  18. All you who want to get together – go to the gym in Middleton and work out. He’s open and not charging because he doesn’t need the money. The health dividend you’ll achieve is a corona virus!
