Another Copper Funeral In Tacoma

Word from top coppers in Boise of another funeral Tuesday, January 5, in Tacoma following the ambush shooting of a Pierce County deputy sheriff. Boise will send the standard two man honor guard and a pair of motorcycle officers at city expense. The deputy who died was one of two who were shot by a drunk, but they killed the shooter in a gunfight.

Ada Sheriff Gary Raney is personally attending and has a mix of deputies attending on their own time and on the clock with at least one paying his own way.

As a spokesman for Pierce County said, they are getting pretty good at funerals, but it isn’t a skill they particularly like. The last one was for four coppers killed at a coffee shop. That one was so big they didn’t allow public attendance at the Tacoma Dome, but this time there probably won’t be the 1,000 Canadian Mounties or as many visiting coppers, so they are encouraging citizens to attend–a good move in our book.

Show funerals mean a lot to the law enforcement community. Let’s hope Western Washington doesn’t get to return the favor anytime soon.

Let me see if I get this right.

    1. Coppers like to emphasize, and further elevate, their elevated status by staging show funerals.

    2. Whacko psycho idiots like to attack high-status targets.

    3. Return to beginning.

  2. Our prayers should accompany the contingent on their mission. These are truly sad times.

  3. I feel your sarcasm and pain Circle.
I also got a ticket over the holidays. One lousy little DUI and we have the right to hate them (insert sarcasm here) Forever!!
If it is OK with you, I will still pray that all law enforcement personnel return safely to their families at the end of their day!

Bummer on the drug hit, onie. If the angst I sense in your post is real, let me suggest staying off the streets for a while or a DUI will be the least of your worries. You might also drop a line to Bikeboy for some advice on no-license rides for the next 6 months or so.

Please note, I an not suggesting whacking the cops. I am suggesting that if the coppers want to quit being the target of the lunatic fringe, they might redirect their efforts away from show funerals, and instead, use the time to better reconnect with the citizens in their neighborhoods. Seems to me that the world could stand a lot more communication and understanding, and a lot less posturing and division.
