Mayor Hotline October 16 to 22

10/15/10
Dave Frechette
E. Nature Dr.
Boise, ID
ISSUE: Frustration with City budgeting and property taxes. His assessed value has gone down$6,200 but his taxes are going up almost $1,000. Everyone is tightening their budgets but the city is raising what they’re collecting for property taxes.
Finance Admin.

10/17/10
Paul Koloski
Fairfield Ave. (Randolph Robertson Sub.)
Boise, ID
ISSUE: People are being issued $76 tickets in parks for “dog at large.” We have been running our dogs at the park and on the ditch bank for 20 years. The paper said it was only $25 tickets for off-leash dogs.

ISSUE: Signs have totally gotten out of hand; they’re everywhere and Code Enforcement
doesn’t do anything. There are also guys on every corner doing the windshield repair, and they said they don’t need a business license because the City of Boise never checks.
PDS

10/18/10
Pam Fraser
N. Balsam St.
Boise, ID 83706
ISSUE: Lazy Boy Furniture at the corner of Orchard and Irving St. has cut down the trees along Orchard in front of their building. They did not look diseased.

ISSUE: Upset about the tailgating at Boise State and the Police Department handing out
citations to people with cups. It seems like it’s become a revenue thing for the city.

10/20/10
David Morrison
W. Highland St.
Boise, ID 83706
ISSUE: Some people living in the area around BSU Campus are charging to park in front of
their houses. Last year police were told to stop people from charging, but this year they have not been given direction to enforce. Please give clarification to the police.

10/20/10
Nancy Barkell
345-6621
ISSUE: She is really disgusted with Mayor Bieter as a mayor; she cannot believe that he does
not support jobs.

10/20/10
Nancy Barkell
ISSUE: The governor actually has a number that you can call and talk to him or his wife 24/7 a day. She is annoyed because the Mayor has caused a great amount of concern around her neighborhood.

10/22/10
Sally Halbach
Promintory Rd.
Boise, ID
ISSUE: Concerned about the begging going on outside of Winco, Costco, and all the other
major stores in town. She noticed that it really is becoming more intense, and she hopes city leaders and store managers get it under control before the Holidays.

Comments & Discussion

  1. I’m in agreement with the anonymous caller regarding signs all over town. You know…

    REAL ESTATE EXPERT SEEKS INTERN

    LOSE WEIGHT NOW

    CHEAP PERSONAL TRAINER

    CASH FOR YOUR HOUSE

    INTERNET AND SATELLITE TV $19.95

    SPRINKLER BLOW-OUTS

They are a blight on the landscape.

Since I don’t like the notion of a paid bureaucrat having to drive out in a government vehicle to take the sign down, I’ve “deputized” myself, and will often pull ’em up and leave ’em lying face down. (I don’t damage them.) I’m probably committing a felony myself… but once a lady confronted me. I told her I’d be happy to give her my name, if she wanted to call the police. (I’d love it if a cop arrested me for pulling up an illegal sign.)

  2. Amen, Bikeboy!
The one I’ve most noticed is the first one you list. “Real Estate Investor Seeks Intern” Yeahright. If I pull one up and drop it face down is that littering?

  3. Bikeboy, I just throw them in the nearest dumpster.

  4. I like the one’s linning State St heading into town.
    Vote for Crap
The last po has been blocked out.
    Love them.

  5. My “barometer” of who is considered in future elections is gauged by how long it takes a candidate to remove their campaign signs. This year seems especially bad!

  6. “Well the sign says long haired freaky people need not apply”
“Sign sign everywhere a sign. Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind. Do this don’t do that can’t you read the sign?”
