HELP! We Need Some News

The GUARDIAN is hurting bad for news. The best we can offer is this shot of Sam the GUARDian dog romping through the wildflowers near Cascade. Sometimes the flowers will pin your ears back!

Things are a couple weeks late, but with all the rain the displays should be fantastic in the usual spots near Council, New Meadows, Stanley, Round Valley. We would be happy to share anything you have to offer.

We aren’t alone when it comes to content. The DAILY PAPER not only doesn’t have Woodward writing for THEM, they have stopped writing about HIM as well. They are stuck on the Ehrlick murder trial.

The GUARDIAN has failed to generate any candidates for the mayor or four council seats up for election in Boise, no interest in the secret cleaning contract dealings, little to nothing about the misdemeanor probation and pee testing at the county either. Even the $114,000 golden parachute for the CCDC director failed to get any interest.

Maybe we need some TV-style stories: “But first…A developing story…breaking news…a team report…live on scene…this just in…will the rain continue?…details after the break…visit our website…police say alcohol was a factor…

  1. Dave, I really think folks are just running out of steam on indignation about the politicians who would like to have us believe they can spend their way back to prosperity.

We are all broke and nobody seems to have a fix for the problem. We all know higher taxes will give more money to the elected class but doubt it will fix anything.

Had to LOL the other day when passing a bank wishing to make “HOMEOWNER EQUITY LOANS”! The downturn in the housing market…who has any equity?

  2. This is a great change from the “news”. I vote for more dogs and wildflowers and fewer sexting stories.

How about a story regarding Ironman Boise 70.3 and how it is closing down our streets and limiting our access, all the while, filling up hotel rooms and restaurants for a weekend. Surely there are some “micro” growthophobes opposed to this “outside” organization coming in and taking over our town.

A story on how PURPA rates which will be paid to wind, solar, geothermal and waste to energy plants and how it ties into Idaho Powers request for a rate increase would be dry but interesting reading

EDITOR NOTE–We actually were first to break that story here

also did a big overall view https://boiseguardian.com/2008/07/20/power-to-the-people-not-easy/

    Dave,

What about the school levy in Boise. If you look at the monthly bills, they have already spent (just in May) over 10,000.00 in travel for conferences, yet they have to fire teachers? Where were the public meetings that they were supposed to have for the negotiations with the teachers union? Did you see them, were they posted on the District website? The answer to both is no. Yet the levy will probably be permanent (supposition on my part) for over 15-17 million dollars a year, but you won’t find out the details until 3 weeks before the vote. The trustees have already raised the amount of money they take in property taxes 3 times in the past 5 years without a vote (unique taxing charter that we have.) We are 5th in the nation in foreclosures and have just seen another 11% decline in our home values. That may be an idea for a story.

  7. Chris has a point w/ the Ironman story. I seem to remember a lot of complaints last year about shutting down streets that severely limited access to homeowners with little notification and some rude responses from BPD

I am with Chris. I am tired of these events which close down the streets of downtown Boise. Yes, I know that it also traps people in downtown, so that they must “spend money” downtown – or at least someone must think so. Crap!
I also think that we are so fed up with the people who have been elected to represent the people actually using their power to get rich and help the highest bidder.
We are also so sick of Luna and his little Napoleonic ways that I’d like to see to it that he fly over the moon, never to return. I won’t bother mentioning Butch or that stupid mayor.

Megan, the levy isn’t permanent and we’ll know specific amount on July 11th.

  10. How about changing towns and going to Eagle. How when you go to City Hall to get information there is no one there to help you. Here’s this beautiful $250,000 a yr leased building and no one home. All the rooms dark with one lady sitting at the front counter that doesn’t seem to have knowledge to answer any questions. Where are the people that they have on the payroll. Must be hiding some where?

  11. Yes, please visit our website. You’re welcome any time!

EDITOR NOTE– we don’t mind sending you our upper intellect readers, but how about bouncing a few our way once in a while–like when we originate stories.

  12. Alas, the only news I know is not really news but quite a scam, and well known..I speak of tax assessments (overvaluing homes a good 10%) as a matter of routine, and raising taxes by 25% total while home values drop by even more so as to keep revenues coming despite increasing poverty on the part of homeowners…Why should government be the only part of society protected from an economic downturn. This IS news that effects most of the valley, but we all take it for granted.

  13. Another non news that should be news note…Today my neighborhood has been invaded by a host a evil critters destroying my neighborhoods trees..Yup, Idaho Power is back chopping trees without permission again. Of course, what they should be doing is leaving the trees alone and buying the power lines but that would make sense and not destroy our shade. Cannot have than now can we.
