Gotta hand it to the Boise City Council. They are consistent when it comes decisions about economic benefits. Noisy jets at Gowen mean $155 million good. Noisy cars and cycles mean loss of diners downtown.
Numerous readers called our attention to the new ordinance featured on KTVB.COM. All the messages pointed out the hypocrisy of the council action. Of course the GUARDIAN delights in “pricking the balloon of hypocrisy.”
Team Dave works doggedly to attract a squadron of F-35 fighter jets which rattle windows with about 110 or more decibels, but write tickets to kids driving cars found offensive by the downtowners. What will the coppers do with all those loud bikes that make charity runs like “Rolling Thunder?”
Tuesday the council passed an ordinance to ban noisy vehicles emitting more than 92 decibels on city streets. The council responded to downtown business owners who claimed the night time cruise drove away customers.
Camerom Lumbsden, owner and operator of downtown restaurants Fork on 8th Street, and Alavita on Idaho Street, testified at the council meeting. He says the loud noise and exhaust is disrupting his business.
We wonder how those downtown business folks, like Lumbsden, feel about the loudest fighter jet in the entire world being based at Gowen Field and causing disruption to the residents, making their homes “not suitable for residential use.”
It says a lot when officials react so decisively on a few downtown business owner complaints, yet refuse to even meet with residents opposed to the F-35.

I am extremely sad and disturbed our City council is willing to work on an ordinance for noisy vehicals downtown, but is willing to let thousands of citizens in our wonderful valley of Boise down approving the F35’s be stationed at Gowan field.

Thanks – Another great article from the Boise Guardian…
If you’re not where the traffic noise is, you’ll not hear it. The noise from the F-35 will come to you…
Jul 26, 2017, 12:14 pm
What about the in-home daycare my wife runs – apparently not all businesses are created equal.
Goes back to what I asked earlier: Why does our mayor and congressional delegation hate children? (Two elementary schools and two parks in the true F35 impact zone)
Jul 26, 2017, 12:39 pm
Drive thru order interruptus.
I just ordered a burger at a drive thru near the overland Walmart. Was interrupted 3 times by military jet noise. I think those businesses need protection from noise too Mayor.
Jul 26, 2017, 3:44 pm
Well that just gives the growing body of folks outraged over the actions of the Mayor and his Zombie Council more Ammo!
Will the cops have decibel meters?
Jul 26, 2017, 4:00 pm
I think it is time for new people to be elected. I hope others will come forward to do the job. Things are changing and not for the better—it is not just my opinion. I wish it was still that you went to the polls and decided these kind of things.

I love The Guardian! Thank you for Good Noisy, Bad Noisy. I live on the bench. I ride motorcycles. I do not own a Harley. I sometimes ride my Ducati Monster with Leo Vince pipes. How do I know what 92 decibels sound like? When I get a ticket? I hope the F35s are not really planning on coming to Boise.
Jul 27, 2017, 5:35 am
Will the police enforce this ordinance outside of the downtown? Hopefully, but it’s hard to believe when the only people Bieter and his robots care about are those that own property downtown.
Jul 27, 2017, 11:00 am
Per 10-25-06(C)(6), This ordinance pertains to loud motorcycles too. Good.
Jul 27, 2017, 11:45 am
I bet they do not enforce this anywhere else – like on Capital Blvd and Vista.
Another example of the City only representing the north end and downtown cronies.
Jul 27, 2017, 12:23 pm
And… just like the norm on this blog, it took an astounding ONE comment before someone linked this to the damned F-35s

Noise? We’ve got y’r noise at the Worst Sauna In World — ValleyRide’s Main Street Station . . . [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YomXfp_0G8 ]
– – –
Though billed as a modern, inter-modal transit center, ValleyRide’s Main Street Station is a White Elephant foisted upon Boise by unscrupulous politicians and Boise’s Shadow government, the CCDC.
Riders are forced to seat themselves in a Busway that is uncomfortably hot, deafeningly noisy, and likely possessive of unhealthy levels of deadly Carbon Monoxide gas (a request is in to IDDEQ to monitor).
Meanwhile, the public is harassed — even threatened — by ValleyRide personnel who routinely overstep there bounds and attempt to enforce “rules / laws” that do not exist in an effort to dissuade from availing oneself of the opportunity to sit on the floor of the relatively quiet and air conditioned interior, even when done in full compliance with Boise City Code and the Posted Rules of Conduct.

Every one that is unhappy about the noise in Boise you are welcome in Idaho City. 36 miles away. Easy drive to Boise. Maybe 2 planes a week at the airport. And down town closes up at around 8:00 PM.
Most people in Idaho City think Boise is just a little to fast for them.
Jul 27, 2017, 9:32 pm
How’s about getting after barking dogs too?
Jul 27, 2017, 9:44 pm
Almost forgot the YMCA whatever at Esther Simplot Park blasting their amplified music right at the Whitewater Apartments last Saturday morning.
Hey, I like loud music as much as anyone, just not your loud music. I just listen to it in my private jet as I’m flying low over your houses on my way to get coffee in SV.
What’s up with that?
Boise is not alone, Denver too.

It’s called Totalitarianism. We the people cower in fear of our government, while the government criminlaizes everything we do to keep us in our place of servitude.
Jul 28, 2017, 9:27 pm
This evening at 7:30 pm, two F-15s approached Boise/Gowen Field for a landing. What is the rationale of our Mayor’s statement that the IANG/Gowen Field is a 10 min. disruption from Monday-Friday during the hours of 8-5? Don’t shift workers, babies and toddlers routinely sleep at 7:30 pm?
Jul 28, 2017, 10:33 pm
New World Order. How about you and your peer group and relatives set down that cheap beer, turn off NASCAR, and vote in every election.
Apathy and stupidity are the root causes of our government out of control.
Jul 29, 2017, 10:02 am
To quote George Santayana “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
Back in the 1970’s I worked for the City of Boise, and the city purchased sound level meters for patrol officers to use.
They used them to write tickets for “excessive noise”. because the “cruse” in downtown Boise was keeping patrons of the hotels awake.
Jul 30, 2017, 9:55 am
If voting worked, they’d make it illegal.
We keep voting, and things keep getting worse, go figure…
Apathy and stupidity are manufactured by a corporate media that is actively selling propaganda, and schools that teach obedience and assimilation.
Personal attacks against those you know nothing of reflect a very low level of intelligence.
Jul 30, 2017, 1:26 pm
Voting works really well, but voter turnout is terrible low, or very predictable within some demographic groups.
Voting really does work. Proof. Voting in a bloc exactly the way their elders tell them to is how the Somali and other *minority groups have taken over the politics of so many cities. The stupid ignorant long term residents refuse to vote then complain they got a muslim congressional representative. See Minneapolis right now for proof. ((*minority in number by a large margin))
The people/businesses in downtown Boise vote and don’t like noise. The people under the new F-35 flight path don’t vote… or always vote party line. Simple as that.
EDITOR NOTE– From our “GUARDIAN SNOPES” researcher: On a lark, I pulled down voting records from the last mayoral election (2015). I compared precincts north of the river with those south of the river and to the west. The comment was correct. 38% voted in the north end. 25% on the bench and around the airport.
Jul 30, 2017, 5:26 pm
Go spend 10 minutes every few years to choose between a Republican corporate whore or a Democrat corporate whore if it makes you feel useful. Good luck with that…
Jul 31, 2017, 10:49 am
Since almost every Idaho politician voiced his or her support for F-35 mission inside Boise city limits, voting will not change anything, in this case.
Any politician who speaks against F-35 mission will get replaced in the next election by the one who is for F-35, via the corporate or lobbyist money.
Therefore only term limits, and campaign finance law change will help, politically.
Holding every significant political figure who supported F-35 legally responsible via a class action lawsuit is the only way out of the “F-35 in the city limits” quagmire.
The other thing, at least half of the population is against F-35 in Boise (and at large). Why have they been silent?
Jul 31, 2017, 12:59 pm
Statistics 101 says that a sample size of 500 would be sufficient to correctly determine the feelings of a population the size of Boise, so low voter turnout is not a problem.
The problem lies in the brainwashing by the corporate media that determines the outcomes of elections. The Russians meddling? Nonsense. The corporate media is the meddler. They tell you who is “electable”, and who is just a “perennial candidate” to be dismissed.
People think voting matters because the corporate media tells them it matters, endlessly repeated, as is any propaganda campaign.

Editor: Do you recall back in December of 1999 there was a bunch of yoyos buying up propane, canned food, and bullets? Some even had their pastor mark their forehead.
Well, they are still here. Still driving their per-electronic ignition Chevy. Still very frustrated with all that wasted money back in 1999. They’re now posting on your blog about the accuracy of their failed philosophy regarding the United States body politic.
I encourage limitations upon said philosophers and other powered egg consumers.
EDITOR NOTE–Your comment and my concurrence about detracting from the quality of comments will hopefully decrease the posts. However, our own GUARDIAN SNOPES researcher offers this on a previous comment: On a lark, I pulled down voting records from the last mayoral election (2015). I compared precincts north of the river with those south of the river and to the west. The comment was correct. 38% voted in the north end. 25% on the bench and around the airport.

some knowledge of standing up for your self interest and what that is would help. too few people go too quietly and don’t voice their self interest as in voting.
social media is powerful, but still has not infiltrated the voting booth.
our mayor, council, and population are not all that educated no do they act on it. the choice between the current administration and something else is a drastic conservative flogging.
how about some over the line conservative to run our town. that is probably our alternative choice. that is how the current admin survives.
