Local Media (Un)Covers City Election

Local media is full of stories today (Wednesday) about the local election. And folks, it ain’t a pretty picture.

BSU RADIO has a story of a fund raising member of Team Dave mixing city work with campaign work.

Hayley Harding at the STATESMAN details some of the big spenders in the mayor and council elections–few surprises, but it shows how the PACs can make bigger payoffs. Seems like too much money from firefighter unions, conservation voters, and a developer.

Also in the STATESMAN is an editorial explanation of propositions that will be on the ballot. The simple rule is to vote YES to protect your right to approve (or not) financing of a library and sports stadium. The measures are NOT about the library and stadium, only the right to approve in the future.

  1. I listened to the BSU Bieter interview. I’m pretty sure that City policy also says that you can’t end your tenure on vacation – you have to come back on the clock for at least one day. Otherwise you take the payout. I could be wrong about that. Regardless, the Mayor can’t obfuscate his way around this one. It is made very clear to City employees from the moment that they are hired that there will be NO political activity while on City time. This is a common professional standard for government employees on any level. It was ignored when City employees worked on the foothills levy and the Open Space levy. The Mayor, then and now, openly advocated for both, contrary to law. Fire ignores their responsibilities to be apolitical. And now we learn that the Mayor’s staff is pulling double duty. I’ve said it before: this Mayor runs a political machine and makes no bones about it (no pun intended, Mr. Police Chief.)

  4. Correction coming soon?

Correction coming soon? Dave Bieter can do no wrong… he said so and he is god of Boise. I’m sure the BSU-Radio reporter will be terminated for failure to respect this Bieter is god policy.

I ‘meant’ November. Election fever has me dizzy.

But, I already voted so no pressure this weekend.

Heard from a friend of a Boise Police Lt. that city hall has been pushing the police officers hard to vote for Team Dave. I’m guessing same at Fire Dept.

If there’s a run-off, expect double the pressure from The Team.

That is against the law to pressure your employees regarding how to vote. Your friend should blow the whistle.

What, has Bieter promised better wages but still cutting stations? The library is not getting better wages yet promoting a huge albatross. What a juxtaposition.

Does he (DB) think he is one of them (BFD)?
