A reader sent us this excerpt from the IDAHO BUSINESS REVIEW regarding a new hire in the office of Mayor Lauren McLean
We don’t know if the weekly paper wrote the story or if the text came from a City of Boise press release, but it is one of the better examples of obfuscation we have seen.
“Jillana Finnegan has been named the strategic initiatives director by Mayor Lauren McLean. As director of programs for Boise State University’s College of Innovation and Design, she provided direction and support for new programs, increased student employability and broke down institutional silos that stood in the way of progress. In her role as strategic initiatives director, she will lead the efforts to support strategic priorities and work with project leaders to create infrastructure.”
Which leads the GUARDIAN to ponder:
–What is an institutional silo?
–What is a strategic initiative?
–What is a strategic priority?
–How do project leaders create infrastructure?
She will no doubt be well paid to provide these services to the citizens of Boise who apparently need to have their strategic initiatives directed.

What’s an “Institutional Silo”?
Silly! …it’s a container for Institutional Silage!
So, what’s “Institutional Silage”?
I’m not sure, but 60 years ago as a young kid, I got to take a tour of Triangle Dairy. My most vivid memories are the chocolate milk sample, and the smell! Oh, that smell! I thought I was going to be ill – seriously!
I asked my teacher, “What’s that HORRIBLE smell?”
I vote NO on hiring somebody to break down the containment vessel!! We’ll regret it – especially when we have another inversion!

Correct on one point. Lauren knows how to hire and fire high paid directors who do ???
Maybe this person needs to explain what it is she intends to do with her time??

Silos are departments, private or public, that don’t talk to each other. Otherwise, called ‘protecting turf’. It’s a thing, everywhere.
Strategic initiatives are similar to tactical initiatives, only more broad.
Same, regarding priorities.
Infrastructure is like pornography… you can’t define it but you will know what it looks like when email can’t be sent or the pipes need cleaning.
Hint: only the first item, here, is legit.

seems pretty obvious.
or, would that be non-obfuscate?
is that a word?
got lost in the headline. :/

Damn, Western! You’re harshing my buzz here.

AKA taking money from people who earned it and giving to those who don’t work and won’t work. Because working productively in society is a privilege silo which needs to be dozed with the rewards of hard work given away to the lazy.
In reprisal I encourage all the Joe The Plumbers of the world to let these SJW jerks suffer with plugged toilets until they realize how much their stuff stinks. They really are too helpless to run a plunger. The bigger the PhD the more helpless they are.

It’s more impressive in Latin or Greek, don’t ya think? E.g. (exempli gratia—”for example”), the Greek σiρóς (siros) for “corn pit” slid through Latin into Spanish as “silo” and into English in the 19th century (1800s). In the 1980s, corporate bureaucrats began using the verb “silo” to mean to “isolate” (a cognate of “silo”) in a group or dept. cut off from others.
We’ll save our etymological disertation on terms like “employability,” i.e. (id est—”that is”), in Anglo-Saxon English, “able to get a job”, “strategic initiatives,” “prioirtize,” and “infrastutcture” for another time.

It means she is a friend of the mayor, wants another job that provides PERSI benefits, does not really know how to do anything useful, only has academic “i teach because I cannot do ” experience.

You hit the nail on the head with this piece. We need to prioritize our strategic initiatives to be inclusive for all stakeholders. The impact of our synergy can move the needle so we can get our ducks in a row. Furthermore, in order to have accountability and transparency, we need a sustainable common-sense approach to thinking outside the box. This is the price point needed to breakdown silos and reach consensus to pivot from circling back so we can all remain above board.

Western guy tried to make sense of this release. It’s laughable that that silo is taken out of context, and our minds are challenged by its misuse.
A physical silo is critical to our survival. Applying the word to business or government assaults its true meaning and furthers the slide into confusion.
Writing/Speaking of confusion, the headline of a recent statesman article states, “ Ada County was accused of breaking open meeting laws. What a special prosecutor said.” Why can’t the reporter not tell it like it is in her headline? For example, “Special Prosecutor finds no open meeting violation in Ada County.” Will the statesman ever get it right?

THIS TYPE OF SPEECH HIDES THE REAL AGENDA OF THESE PEOPLE. IT HIDES THE DESTRUCTIVE PLANS FOR UNINFORMED CITIZENS IN BOISE AND PROBABLY ALL OF IDAHO. IF THE BOISE GUARDIAN FINDS THE TRANSLATION FOR THE MAYOR’S PLANS, I WOULD DEFINITELY WANT TO KNOW IT. HER PLANS ALARM ME. HER ATTEMPTS TO HIDE HER PLANS THROUGH TRICK VOCABULARY IS FRIGHTENING. WHO IN BOISE SHARES MY CONCERNS. IS THE MAYOR RECEIVING MONEY FROM NEFARIOUS SOURCES ?

Let it be remembered that most people get elected because (1) People cannot tolerate the opponent (i.e. Trump v. Hillary) or (2) the incumbent is worse than the challenger, and so gets de-throned, which explains the election of Madam Mayor McLean and Mr. President Biden.
In neither case is the victor much loved.

“work with project leaders to create infrastructure” of political graft?

Jargon run amok:
As Dilbert’s comic strip accurately noted:
“We need to stay in our swim lane while the tiger teams get buy-in on the verticals.

in the Feb.1 issue of TIME magazine Madeleine Albright wrote a piece Our destructive cycle of us-vs.-them,( the later available for your audio review on Dark side of the MOON,)thinking.”It would be helpful, too, if the professional political class would stop describing America as split between red states and blue.”
I believe that if our ELECTED PUBLIC SERVANTS were refereed to as such and not politico’s or officials, or wealthy politicians or the most current professional political class PUBLIC SERVANTS wouldn’t be on A PEDESTAL. IT WOULD BE A START IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

As a former Leftist….Western guy answered correctly. But I’ll clue you in on what it really means. It’s code for MOB RULE. We all want better communication between departments and task forces and all of that…and I used to believe the goal was just that. But as we have seen, the term “silo” really means that Victimhood wants to shout down ANY institutional entity that they perceive as harshing their mellow…as the kids say.
Leftists see victims all over the place. They see cultural offenses everywhere. They want to destroy any perceived barrier to their pestilence of WOKE that lurks in the air, seeking to undo every cultural norm that they allege has caused harm to their kind. It can be dress fashion, gender “bias,” cultural fetishes, sports culture, historical precedent…anything that looks established that they can’t utilize for their own goals of ultimate deconstruction of American norms.
Nancy Pelosi and Dems have already passed “gender neutral” rules for the Congress. So….”In clause 8(c)(3) of rule XXIII, gendered terms, such as “father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half brother, half sister, grandson, or granddaughter” will be removed.
In their place, terms such as “parent, child, sibling, parent’s sibling, first cousin, sibling’s child, spouse, parent-in-law, child-in-law, sibling-in-law, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, half-sibling, or grandchild” will be used, instead.”
This would be an example of breaking down an institutional silo. Anyone trying to “hide out” in an “institution” and continue to use a gendered term, can’t do that anymore inside their “silo” anymore.
As far as getting any real work done? Sorry…priorities man.
